So I just bought this super jet about a month ago. I took it out on the water for the first time yesterday. had a small nick on the side from where the paint was peeling

After the ride yesterday I noticed it peeled even more! How can I prevent this from spreading?

Also loading it on my Versa-Haul I noticed the scratched the bottom pretty good. I might be a little anal with my first really nice ski but I don't want this to keep happening every time I go out! There is like n AstroTurf on my versa-haul, would it be better carpeted?

My poor baby :sadwavey:

I expected to see a pic of the hood after reading the title.

Both sj's at this hosehold, bought brand new, lost the paint on the hoods only within 2-3 years. Did a little cleanup & bombed 'em with rustoleum.
The Yamaha folks are pretty darn good with motors. But can't paint.

Ride it til the peeling stops, light sand, spray it with a can. If it looks bad after that, defer to Idok's post...(put a decal on it) and don't lose sleep.

The problem is they paint right on top of the SMC, no sanding, no primer no chance the paint wil ever stay on. The SMC material has mold release made in to it, spraying over the top of the SMC without sanding and or priming the hull leaves little chance of the paint actually bonding to the hull. Kawasaki does the same thing, the results are the same as well.

That makes sense.
And I've seen plenty of hoods do it. But I've never had an issue lower on the hull..that I didn't cause..lol.
I did have an issue with gel-coat "not setting-up" where I had previously patched a crack.
But the stock paint , other than the hood, is still standing up on my ski's.
I thought the hood only was SMC. Is the hull also?

Top deck is mint, no flake at all. *knock on wood* but theirs another really small spot on the other side with the same issue.

Like I said before the paint really rubbed off on bottom when I put it on my hitch mount.... my Kawi never did this....

Either thins thing got weaker with age or the original owner never moved the damn thing, Ive scratched up the bottom more from one run out than the original owner did for 13 years (semi exaggerating)

depending upon your budget, ... you can make it completely beautiful and set it on a scissor stand in your living room.....

Or, you could patch it up and ride it like you stole it.

Hmmmm.

definately ride it like you stole it, and dont freak out to bad when it crashes into the rocks, it didnt hurt mine that bad. hulls are cheap anyways, just take good care of the motor, they tend to get expensive
