does fitting an msd give much gain on a standard block? i am running pro tec pipe ,head and modded waterbox, or should i wait until i can get the engine fully ported ?

Some will say no. I say hell yes. It eliminates the rev limiter which is enough for me. And combined with better plug wires I feel it fires harder. I consider it a must have.

Fitting an MSD total loss ignition or enhancer CDI? Total loss will make a big difference and the enhancer CDI will not.

I think the next step should be porting.

True Total loss has many advantages, super light flywheel (faster acceleration), more control over timing (great low end without sacrificing the top) and a hotter spark (better fuel burn & less plug fouling)

MSD makes a lot of parts. Total loss, CDI enhancers, water injection, plug wires, etc. You need to be more specific.

As said before total loss makes a huge difference and it won't matter if your engine is ported or not. I personally think CDI enhancers are a joke but many will argue with me. I can't speak for water injection though since I've never tried it.

Total loss makes a huge difference ported or not, an enhancer only makes a small difference as the timing curve is far too conservative for freestyle.
We are about to release a computer programmable CDI that will give you the ability to programme a far more suitable curve for your own setup or of course just buy it pre programmed. Maybe you should hang on a little while and check it out.

Anybody else want to chime in on the gains you do/don't get from the MSD ehnancer only for freestyle riding?

If you DO like them, where would you put them in the heirarchy of common mods (compared to porting, pipe, lightened flywheel, etc.)

save your money and get your stocker modded by pro tec for like 100$ those msds take chits and leave you stranded and pissed off. the short time i was able to use mine i couldnt tell the difference with my pro tec. the modded stocker is alot more reliable too.

Just my opinion but, I feel that a cdi only offers benefits with other items added. If you put an enhancer on a stocker, nothing but a higher rev limiter. If you have a pipe head, impeller intake grate, etc it really "seems" to add more. But then again I could say the same for almost most mods

I dont have that much experience, but anytime I have see someone stranded because ther cdi fails it was an MSD, I would just get the stocker modified or do it myself
