our local surf forecast (40mi. north of daytona)
SUNDAY: After a seasonally cool morning, wind SW/W 5-15 mph with waves starting out a lethargic 1/2' (+/-1/2') in clean but very small scale, moderate period easterly swell, beaten down to near nothing toward evening by the increasing offshore wind. Last mild day for quite some time will give way to increasing clouds moving in from the west as the afternoon wears on.
MONDAY: Cool and cloudy with sprinkles ending, wind shifting NW/N 5-15 mph with waves 1/2-occ 1' or so in weak north swell.
TUESDAY: Wind backing NW/W 5-15 mph with waves 1/2' (+/-1/2') in clean little/residual north swell peelers.
WEDNESDAY: Colder wind locking in NW 6-16 mph with waves up a smidge to 1/2-occ 1' (better size south) in angled northerly swell.
THURSDAY: Cold wind increasing by afternoon to NW 10-20 mph with waves about the same north of the Cape, building considerably south Florida toward evening. High temperature will struggle to climb into the 50's in North Florida as the polar express is in full swing.
FRIDAY: Frigid sub-freezing conditions settling for the north half of the state with wind NW/N 7-17 mph with waves leveling off at 1-occ 2' (more size south areas) in cold north swell.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK: The 5-Day above ain't a pretty forecast with small surf and increasingly colder air settling in, producing a multiple-day run of cold meaningless waves. To end on a semi-positive note, at the tail end of the 5-Day I still see a north swell increasing in size leading into the weekend. The frigid air spilling out of northern Canada will be the coldest of the winter. Stay tuned for updates as new forecast data arrives. -Dean
