midshaft seal damage

I had a well-known jet ski shop rebuild my midshaft housing. It came back with a notch out of the seal. The notch may have been there before - I didn't really look too closely when I pulled it off the ski - since I was sending it away to be redone, I would think that if a new seal was needed, it would be installed. All new oem bearings were installed.

So my question is, is it safe to install this way? I would obviously be siliconing the %^&* out of it, but would that be enough?

should be alright if after you install the midshaft your seal all edges... but just check it periodically. Just look inside your ski and see if water is leaking in.

That really isn't a seal that can be replaced. That rear lip is part of the whole rubber inner housing. If you want that rear lip to replaced, you have to replace the whole midshaft housing.
