Super Jet Metal part in flywheel housing

I was having issues with my starter bendix not engaging and went to replace it. While cleaning my case up I found this metal piece at the bottom of the crankcase. Any idea what this piece is to? I don’t see anything missing from the coil, flywheel etc.

Thanks guys. When you say starter clutch do you mean it’s part of the old bendix? Or the actual starter itself?

I just looked in the crankcase again so that was probably a stupid question since the only part of the starter that sticks through the case is the splined starter shaft so I’m assuming it must be part of the old bendix? I don’t see anything missing from it though

Yep part of your old bendix. You’re lucky if you didn’t lose coils with those parts floating around!

Ok thanks. I can’t see anywhere on the bendix where it came from though. Just curious at this point. But ya, glad it didnt do any damage!

It's part of the bendix internals, and known to be a thing that breaks. When the bendix engages, that part is more visibly exposed. Luckily, it's a pretty easy thing to replace, provided the rest of the bendix is worth saving. You can get the parts wherever you choose, but I'd personally get from @JetManiac . Replace the spring at the same time. I suggest getting a spare circlip (?) for reassembling the bendix, unless you're skilled at not deforming the old while removing it.

Thanks for explaining Steve! I ordered a new bendix so I won’t worry about it. I did see OEM bendix’s for $400 and another bendix for $100 on blowsions site. I went for the $100 option. Hopefully there isn’t much difference

As others said, that part is from inside your old bendix.

Oem bendix much much better than any a/m bendix.

Whatever you don't discard the OEM bendix. If you don't use it now, clean it up, replace parts, stuff it in a ziploc and wait... you'll want it eventually. Or someone will
