lowering bracket

On a 99 SJ is there any reason to get a "lowered bracket" if i am going to shorten the stock pole? Other than strength, are there other benefits? Like with hood tricks or anything? And if bracket should be replaced, how much benefit with getting double hole for breathing tube?

lowers center of gravity.. doesnt make hood tricks easer unless you get a lowered nose and hood.

and what about the breathing tubes?

actually modifying a stock hood right now. It's gonna be cut down quite a bit. We'll see how it works

if you cut down your hood but leave your bracket at stock height, its going to look like an fx-1

Don't be silly, a roundnose couldn't be that sexy!!

I'm running a XMW pole bracket with big breather tube...I cant really tell a diffrence in performance, but im not running a hot motor setup that requires alot of air, so my hood intakes do it fine.

The reason to have the breather go up the pole is that, in most cases, the pole is the last thing to go under. With the breathers up that high the motor gets a last gasp of air before you submerge (in a sub, for example). If you've blocked off the front holes in the hood, and have the breathers up the pole, then you can fountain all day....

that leads to another question. I have cut doena stock hood myself. Should i build the "shields" over the back holes or just leave them alone? and should they be a little bigger?

You can leave the back holes and yes, make them bigger. You need them bigger with the front holes closed off (you did close them off, didn't you?)

Makes your handling change a bit but nothing to REALLY fuss over. if your not going hood kit.....dont worry about it

Before I went the way of the Lowered Hoods and XMetal Pole and bracket, I ran an R&D Lowered Bracket, not only did it make the ski handle better on the race course, it also made it easier to do nose stabs and inverts.........

Definately worth the time and money if you can get one cheap, yes, close off your front air intakes, open up your rear........ If you do not want to spend the money on a lowered hood system, but want a hood that has handholds and really keeps the water out, invest in the Blowsion baffle/liner system for your SJ, and also, get them to send you the carbon cups (you glue these to the underside of your hood and cut handholds out, it seals your hood up like the aftermarket hoods with handholds) so you can make your own custom freestyle hood........
