I don't know for sure? Mine hit the trash can a long time ago. But I seem to remember the cavity where it sits being machined so there is bare metal at the bottom of the hole.:dunno:

If not then we are all just fcked because our SJ electrical boxes are only grounded by one little black wire coming from the stator ring. Let's all go buy Kawis.

well....think we got it....

pulled the front cover and found a cracked black wire from the stator....not broken totally, but at least 70% or so....has to be it....

will reassemble this afternoon and see what happens!

Do you still have the overheat sensor connected and running to the head? If so,... good. If not, the only ground connected to the e-box is the one in the stator harness. if that gets broken or corroded, then no sparky.

If you dont have the overheat sensor in place, run an extra ground from the blok or battery directly to the e-box mounting tab. And see if you have spark? Easy test.

Oh, and get that thing fixed & at least keep it running until Saturday the 9th when I come to visit!!!! :fingersx: :fingersx: :fingersx:

I would not run an extra ground back to directly to the battery unless it was only temporary to get you back to shore. If you have the original ground from stator to e-box and an extra ground to the battery you could end up with a bunch of melted wires or a fire:aargh4: This would happen if the main ground to the block comes loose or fails due to corrosion from salt water. If the main ground fails the small guage extra ground and the original ground to the stator would try to carry all the starting current and it will get real hot real fast. This would be an expensive way to find out the main ground is bad.:skull2: :cussing: :firedevil:

Just fix the original wire and be done with it. Good luck.:banghead:

Agreed, I was suggesting this as a quick test. But I do suggest running an extra ground from the block to the e-box all the time. Any problem with that Mr. Electron?

BTW, I hear there's gonna be a naked square in Smyrna??? congrats!

So you're coming down for next weekend? What day(s) are you gonna ride? I can usually only get out on Sunday's, but I sometimes sneak in an occassional Saturday ride.

Mr Electron says you heard right:biggrin: . I took delivery of an old Ohio RN hull Thursday night. It's a 96 and in great shape. Now I just have to get the reinforcement and other goodies glassed in and swap the square guts over. :arms: :bananajump:
