Looking for small hull drains.....

My hull is leaking after my re-foam. I used dow foam on the bottom half so hopefully it's not too soaked.

I think Matt E or someone had installed some small drains in the back of his hull.

I don't have room below my exhaust and scupper for big drains and was trying to come up with something smaller. Anyone use anything different?

I installed 5/8" thick nylon with epoxy on the inside of the hull to accept 1/4" NPT tap and installed brass or SS pipe plugs.

I guess it was Mark44 I was thinking of not Matt E!

Thanks man. That's exactly what I am hoping to find.

So it's just round nylon that you epoxied in place and then drilled and tapped the right size.......That should work.

Ahhhhh.
I see.
I really don't want to de-foam again so I will probably have to come up with something a little different that I can install from the outside. It gives me some ideas though. Re-foaming is only a job I can handle about once every five years. When my turf is junk maybe I will do it then.

I think I moved my exhaust outlet up a bit to fit that drain.
I don't remember.

Yes you did because they wouldn't fit, I searched and searched before I came up with my design. You even rotated the pipe, not sure how that worked out with the compound angle the flange is on from factory.

You can get the brass fittings at Lowe's or Home Depot and the plugs too. Just rough up the fittings with a grinder and glass them in. 1/4 NPT. I've done it twice. Pics in the rn thread post #23 I think. Good luck.

i just drilled some holes and threaded bolts into them with 5200. this is my temporary fix until refoaming after daytona.

works pretty good right now. but ski is about 350 with a couple gallons of gas

My ski was pretty light for a stock hull 2 years ago when I built it. Now it has been weeping water from somewhere and seemed to be getting heavy. I drilled 2 holes in the back and caught 3 quarts of water in my ratio rite cup.

I think I will do something similar to what mcdog did.

Will the 1/4"NPT fitting seal pretty well without pipe tape or anything?
I guess I probably have a much bigger leak somewhere else so this is probably the least of my concerns.

My exhaust outlet is held in with screws, not rivets. I just pull my bottom screw. I considered drilling it out and using a bigger screw, but so far that hasn't been necessary.

On the left sine I screwed in a threaded insert and sealed it with 5200. Then I use a stainless steel button head allen screw and a sealing washer to seal that up.

"hex drive with flange" I got 1/4-20 thread size. Then I grabbed some stainless 1/4-20 button head screws and some neoprene sealing washers.

I drilled a 5/16 (or 11/32?) hole and then threaded the insert in. Coat the insert with 3M 5200 sealant.

I may take my 16" long 5/16 drill bit to the back of Christin's ski and see how much water I can get out without defoaming.

The posted link is McMasterCarr.com, but I got them at Home Depot.
