300/440/550 Looking for hand laid js400

I am searching for one of those old hand laid hulls. I am not looking for one in collectible condition I am using it for a project. My old hull can not take the beating I am giving it with the 650 motor setup I am running. Those old hulls are a bit stronger. I dont care if the hull is full of leaves filled with water and half buried under a tree in your backyard :). Let me know if you have one and how much you want for it. I am located in florida but I am willing to travel to get it if necessary.

Sorry kid4now that looks just like the hull I have now. You can tell they are hand laid if you look inside the engine compartment. You can see the fiberglass mat and the metal engine mount laminated under it. The smc hulls are white anywhere the finish chips off the hand laid hulls are that funny ickish brown.

It doesnt have to be a 400 hull as long as its hand made glass and not the smc type. I was not aware that any hulls except the old old 400 were made this way. My SMC hull is cracking itself to ribbons. I am not sure what causes it but every smc I see cracks in the same spots unless you baby them.

Why don't you just get a stock 550 hull and reinforce the bottom with glass? It would be cheaper, and save you a lot of time searching... PLUS, you can build up more where we all know where these 550s crack... nose and infront of the tray...

My two cents... Hell I just chopped up a 440 hull you could have had to lay the glass in.... I think your old 400 hull is going to cost you more than you think...

Actually the old 400 hulls are not valuable and I have seen several over the past couple years and two of them for free but I passed over them opting to stay with my original hull. Now I have changed my mind. Since I am in no paticular hurry it doesnt matter how long it takes me to find one. Most of the old hulls are lying in peoples backyards unwanted and unused just like the yellow 400 above.

True, but people like Waterhawk, and others want them the same as you. And the ones that are clean like the guy who has both models knows they arn't for everyone, but for someone who wants to collect them.

IMHO I think there are more people looking for those old hulls, than hulls that are really out there... I'm not saying you wont find one, hell you might even find one for free... but there is a line of people who want them too... If one came across my path, I would take it and put my 550 stuff into one.. (or sell it.. I guess)

I guess if your willing to wait long enough I'm sure you'll find one, but IMO I don't see why you don't just reinforce the hull you have now, or even a free hull someone else would offer to you...
