Look what we made.

Today, I attempted to bolt up my 44mm Mikuni Carb and manifold from my 650SX on my 750 X2. I ran into a little problem. The exhaust studs have the same layout in the two engines, but the intakes are totally different. The 650 has 8 studs, while the 750 has 10 studs.

So, Tom and I started tossing arround the idea of stealing Tims yamaha manifold and moving the holes a bit so we could use it. Don't worry Tim, we weren't going to do it unless you called us back. Well, I grabbed up Tims 701 yamaha to take a look at the bolt patterns, and come to find out... Tim has the exact same manifold on his 701 as I had on my 650. It uses a conversion plate. Tom consults his Riva book and sure enough, for $220 you buy a manifold and conversion plate for the 44-46mm Mikuni. That's just the way it works.

Well, Tom in his infinate wisdom put me to work for the next several hours. With Toms vast knowledge and tools, and my incredible ability to have nothing better to do... well... the pictures tell the story. BILLET!

We'll finish up the project in the morning and go ride.

R&D and West Coast made a single 750 mikuni 44/46 manifold. I have the R&D version and have seen a West Coast one before. There is an R&D on eBay now but it is a bit pricey.

Nice job in saving some cash and making what you need! :)

I'm willing to bet that's some scrap aluminum I got from Ollie Rasabean. no Idea what grade that was.

where can you buy a chunk big enough to mill a 62t single intake manifold out of? also, what would i need size wise? 8x8, 10x10 ?

there are recycling places around here where they'll sell usable scraps. that piece would probably be $5-10 dollars. price is based on weight.

Mike said it ran better than it ever has. We made some adjustments and probably could use a little more, but apparently the jetting I pulled out of thin air wasn't too far off.

The plugs were very dry. #.0 said he thinks it's too lean. We checked the compression when we got back to the shop. The gauge read 170/180. Tom's ski has more compression so hopefully it will run even better than mine.

The X2 ran the best it has since it was built. I'm glad to find out I can make use of the pipes I have until I find a good deal on a B-pipe or something.

Thanks Marz and Tom.

The part cost about $40 after stainless hardware, the aluminum and I gave Tom a few bucks. The killer is that it costs 8 hours of my time and a hour of Tom's time. Considering time is money, this part is pretty costly.

We went this route for one main reason... avalibility of parts. I couldn't have a 750 manifold in time to tune the carb for Daytona. It was also beneficial to me to get the oppertunity to learn how to do this kind of work.
