latest project: X2

I got pretty lucky a month ago and picked up an X2 for CHEAP! I have always wanted one to play around on. I had one before but never got around to finishing it so i sold it. This time i was determined and for the price, there was no way i was passing it up.

Turns out the guy had it on ebay and it actually sold, but the buyer wanted him to hold it for like another month. The guy had no room to store it so i emailed him when he relisted it and he said come and get it- so i did!

I expected the motor to be locked up when i got it. After getting it home, i reached in and couldnt turn the coupler. Motor was locked? I yanked it out and to my surprise, it was the pump bearings that were seized. The motor was actually very clean like someone had just gone through it.

Here is the ski when i got it home. It was pretty darn clean!

Once the motor was out, i noticed i had a little work to do. The motor mounts were shot, pan was rusted, and the hull inside was filthy. Spent about 2 days cleaning the inside of the hull. Mean time, i won some motor mounts on ebay.

Emptied the 'bad' gas out of the tank, installed the bilge pump, replaced the pump bearings and put in a new prop that a buddy at the shop gave me.

Also, i didn't like the blue dash pad so i painted it.

It was coming along fairly nice but it needed turf! I struck a deal with a buddy: I put his motor back in his SJ for him and he gave me a new sheet of turf. Worked out well for both of us. Traded - time - for parts!

Finally got her fired up after rearranging some fuel lines and cleaning the carbs and fuel pump. She runs like a champ!

I'm glad i decided to turf the rails too. I think it looks waaaaay better than without. Also, changed the bars out but kept the stock thumb throttle, and grips.

(Wait... why in the world would you keep the thumb throttle? A- Auditions for Water World are in March and their skis in the show are Bone Stock so i need to be totaly used to it by then. I may even swap the stock bars back on for a bit to get comfortable with them.)

...but for now, shes ready for the surf!

(next on the list: re-cover the seat)

so i have had it out a few times in the surf and i friggin LOVE this thing! (i almost like it better than my standup...)

Made a few mods this week.

The stock steering set up SUX! Since i don't have $200 to spend on a UMI or Accusteer, i did the next best thing... (what Kawasaki SHOULD have done) I fond a zirk fitting off an old pump and drilled into the steering housing. Now i can grease it up and fill it so it is a lot tighter. Also took off the adjuster and ran a bolt all the way through. Now it's nice and tight! Just like i like it!

...also made some super special top secret mods to the motor.
