Landing hard = timing out of whack?

SXR-FOREVER

Finally Flippin
When I was in florida last year and rode Sebastian everytime I landed hard like on this jump my jetski would act like it was only running on one cylinder as if I lost my spark plug cap or something. I would head back towards the channel and all of a sudden it would come back to life. Anybody have an idea of the cause of this?

I think you need to click on the thumbnail..

That is just your ski telling you........... OucHHHHHHHH quit beating me!!! :chairshot: Do you have any retainers on your spark plugs? Sounds electrical. If you have any water in the hull when you hit it can splash up and get in the motor, causing that kind of hesitation. How long does it last before it clears out. Also kind of sounds like it stops sucking fuel or get really rich on you then clears it self out as you increase the rpms. Guess I was not much help...........how does it compare to running out of gas?

When i first got my ski it would bogg really abruptly on hard turns. Ends up my stator was loose and when the ski would take jolt or anything the timing would be who know where and cause the motor to do weird things.

Hey bro-I assume yer talkin bout yer SXR-if so-
BEEN THERE-DONE THAT

DO THE HOOD MOD

if you are lookin at yer hood on the ski and yer standin in the tray---
there is a large hole in the right front-BLOCK IT OFF-use duct tape 1st if u don't believe me

then at the left rear corner-make a hole trying to immitate the factory hole on the right rear

I don't get it-but it worked-on hard/deep subs my SXR did the exact same thing-then went to Orange Beach in decent surf-same thing-only pro-longed bog-I thought it was electrical as well

I now have a piece of lexan that I cut and siliconed over the right frt hole and used a dremel to make left rear hole-NO MORE BOG-EVER!!!

I hope this helps your ski
peace out

I really dont think it was water, I was running both my bilges and I have a one-way. I have the hood mod too. It didnt seem like running out of gas either because it didnt have that boggy noise when i gave it more gas, it just stayed the same.

Last year when I was in a hurry I changes my spark plugs and didnt get a cap on very tight and half way across the bay it popped off and I was running on one cylinder--It acted exactly like that when I landed hard in FL. When I brought it back to shore both caps were on tightly??

It lasted probably 30 seconds to a min.

What are retainers on spark plugs?

sounds like water splashing up into the carb....could be a loose stator though, although not likely if it runs well once recovered.....

typically if your stator is loose you lose all your bottom end (at least on a yamha)...fw spins the stator CW and retards the timinig..
