Octane Lake gas can

Well I bought a crappy Walmart gas can when I first got my ski. The damn things has a stupid safty latch that you need 3 arms to use. Its super hard not to spill on my ski when I am filling up. Pisses me off so bad every time.

The other day when I was going to the lake it tipped over inside my SUV and dumped gas all over by back seat. I have been getting serious brain damage from driving around smelling gas fumes for the past two weeks.

Seems like all the pro's have this cool gas tank that doesn't leak and is 100x easier to not spill. Plus it doesn't have a 3 year old safety latch. Link: http://www.jcmotors.com/p-18858-vp-racing-portable-square-jerry-can.aspx

My question is
1. Why are these so damn expensive?
2. Is there a cheaper alternative to the $40 gas can
3. What do you use?

I use an LC jug I got from Western power sports, I figure my time is worth something and have easily paid for the jug 100 times over in saved time.

July 4th sale...$25.95 Click your link.

Ya comes out close to $40 after shipping.... and I can buy it at my local motorcycle shop for $40.

Its almost worth paying extra just because I have to haul my gas inside my SUV. If I had a trailer or a truck I wouldn't mind the spillage as much

As much as I hate the lawsuit happy society we're in, I think a few lawsuits in the opposite direction would help because you can make something less safe by adding too many safety checks. Sue because it's near impossible to safely use the equipment provided in it's current "safety" configuration.

On a side note, I've heard countless people complain about all these things but everyone just accepts it as-is. It took me one use and less than a minute of intuitive reasoning and the problem was solved. See pictures below for the fix.

Now I actually prefer to use these safety spouts because they're so easy and clean. They're on all of my yard and jetski gas cans. Tip the can upside down and then push the lever. One word of caution... If you punch a hole in the back to let fuel flow faster, you MUST use a funnel because fuel will leak around the handle. If you don't punch a hole, you can use this thing all day upside down and you won't spill a drop.

i just bought 3 tuff jugs. they are legal, and they claim to be able to be emptied in 45 seconds. 3 jugs was about 150$ though. kinda spendy

How fast or slow does a normal jug empty? I never timed it but it doesn't feel like it'd be any more than a minute if it has a vent or hole punched in the back. I just know 45 seconds would feel like forever when you're holding 30-40 pounds at chest level.

they have a video on their site. it empties faster then the scribner style jugs, and the normal saftey jugs

i am in no way affiliated with them, but i wanted something legal to use, and these looked pretty good. i just ordered em today, so i have yet to try them. if they work like they say they do, they might be worth what i paid for em. i will report back on how well they work when i get home from the sandbox to try em out.

I use the same ones waternut uses with the safety lever removed. This way you have a nice spring loaded valve to fill the ski with.

I had thought about installing a vent in the back, good to know about the leak thing. I know if you squeeze the jug, it will leak like you say.

I use these ... http://www.tacticalcommunications.biz/servlet/the-12/Scepter,-MFC,-Jerry-Can,/Detail
with this spout.... http://www.tacticalcommunications.biz/servlet/the-13/Scepter-Rapid-Pour-Spout/Detail

best cans money can buy for all around use. They poor quick, wont explode under fire and are durable as all get out. They will last a lifetime. You can throw them in the car or whatever....they wont spill or seep.

I cant say I paid for them though.

Ouch..... thats expensive. Makes $40 look cheap.

I just need something that wont leak in case its tipped over. I try to wedge it in between chairs and other things but you never know.
