Kommander GP1

Since there is not very many race ski builds on here I'd figure I would post my build for this winter. This is my 2018 Kommander GP1 with a Kawasaki 800 and Skat 142. This is one of the only ones built with an 800 to my knowledge. This winter I'm planning on dropping a 1500 Kawi into it, which should not be super difficult once I can find a good donor ski. I will have to drill new motor mounts as this one is set up for a Yamaha 1050. Which means most of my time will be spent just aligning the motor. I was able to find a low comp 15f for cheap that I picked up for a mock-up motor so I don't have to move around that massive engine with everything on it. I will not be running the 142 as I have a buddy that is wanting to trade his skat 145 for it. I have already done a few things since I picked it up. When I got it the pole wasn't perfectly straight, I have done a little bit of turf work, and new fuel lines, other than that I have hardly touched it. I have had the time to take it out to GPS it and to get a feel for the handling. I GPS it at 56mph, which is amazing for a stock 800 with a head but the amazing thing is how awesome it handled. Going from a Pro-am ski stock superjet that I have been racing for 4 years to this thing, its night and day. The superjet struggles at full throttle turning compared to this, you can turn it as hard as you want going full throttle and it doesn't care. It truly is the best handling skI i have ever ridden and i cant wait to see what it can do when I can get another 10mph out of it. I'm going to try to remember to update this as I get things done or problems arise.

I had not even looked to see who had posted this, just dove right in............... Then started seeing all the B1's and I knew who it was without clicking back!!!!!!!!!! Shocked at the GPS numbers. Those are Limited MPH #'s for an SXR......
Look forward to the build!

I was kinda expecting this but the bedplates are cracked pretty good. On the inside of the front left crack is lifting so I'm waiting on a reply from kommander to see what they recommend before I do anything to it. fun times.

Nice!! That is good news. Can’t wait to see you ride it with the 1500 in it. We need some good practice days for next season.

Not much has been happening in the past couple of months. I got the 15f motor completely torn apart, I got the head sent to the machine shop to get the valves done. I had the intention to build the head with heavier springs. I started to do the numbers of what it was going to cost in detail to rebuild the motor to what I needed and it was going to be in the ballpark of $3500 to $4000 just to get the motor running. With this in mind, I have been searching for a sxr for a donor ski when I came across one in Michigan at a really good price that made sense to buy just for the motor. The ski has around 30hrs on it and it saves me the trouble of having to piece together the other motor without knowing exactly what I need. With this ski, I should be able to drop the motor and electronics in and go.

Since racing season is just around the corner I had to make the decision of whether to fix my bed plates or wait for who knows how much longer for the new bedplates. I decided to fix mine and hopefully they can hold up for this year and I will swap them out next winter. So with this decision I started mocking things up and the motor lines up pretty good. The exhaust is going to be kinda interesting to get to line up but it shouldn't be too hard. More to come...

Yep at the speeds this thing is will hopefully go it would be pretty painful if your feet slid. I'm in the middle of returfing it so this is what the actual trey looks like.

I ride with my back foot perpendicular to the tray, not seeing how that would work, would have to build up the lower section then make tray smooth.........
