What type of knee braces are available and if anyone has used one tell me how it works and how comfortable it is .

When my bottom half of my leg twists or bends sideways some cartiledge is going in between the joint and when I straighten it out again it pops and is very painful .:banghead:

I need one for my knee so it will not twist or bend sideways .
Just keep my leg bending like it's supposed to:biggrin:

Thanks .

$385 is cheap. I have a set of braces which I believe they billed the insurance company close to $2000. Do a search for Don Joy braces. They are killer and provide excellent support for dirtbiking, skiing, etc. Also, check out another set of braces called Asterisks. They are probably the best braces available to the public. I also believe they are lifetime warranty if you ever have a problem. They run about $550 for a pair.

what do you guys think about getting a brace just to kinda help it not get any worse? I do get one knee that kinda pops and it hurts a little, but nothing bad, but I would hate to beat on it more and get it to really start to hurt.

After surgery on my left knee and the right knee pending I wear cheap pharmacy braces on both my knees when I ride, but keep looking for something better.
My question, how do you size them? What part of your leg or knee do you measure to find out if you need SM, MD, LG, XL?

Check with each manufacturer. They have specific places to measure in order to size correctly.

I have the same problem with my left knee, I contacted Joe kenney, and asked him what he uses. He uses CTI, from Innovation Sports in Cali.. They run about 750.00 and up, but if you get lucky, like I did I grabbed one of of Ebay for 101 shipped.. You can't beat that.. It works awesome, and is so comfortable.. Itz made out of carbon Fiber and is so durable, I plan on giving it a real beaten this season.. But thatz what I recomend..

These guys are all pro and have been doing this for years:

Innovation came highly recommended by my doctor when i discussed the same knee popping pain. when it sticks i almost have to forcefully straighten it to get it back. THen it swells like a biatch.
I found doing a lot of strenghtening excercised for the joint muscles almost cured my problem. Now its back with full vengenace when i lost all muscle being on crutches for over 6 months. Light weight and lots of reps for all leg extension and any knee bending leg excercises. Keep that up and you wont need braces untill you really tear a ligament. $385-550 is at least a years gym pass if not 2 years.

What! What!
Sicki is right on target. Strengthen the joint as much as you can. That will be your best possible brace. I have had both ACLs replaced so can vouch for the DonJoy brace mentioned earlier, but you will have significantly less, or no more problems if you can strengthen the joint. The braces are really only meant to prevent additional catestrophic injury. I have not needed a brace since the first year following my injury. Blew the first one in '84 and the second one in '91.

High reps with low weight is the way to roll. The tendons and ligaments respond more slowly to resistance training than the muscle tissue does so keep up your efforts over time and your joints will respond.

Good Luck! Ride on

Sicki ,It's the cartiledge inside that is moving around man .
my legs are like tree trunks and strong as hell but only as strong as the weakest link .I don't know if strengthening exercises will help.

my joint seperates a bit and the cartiledge moves inside the joint.
once the loose cartiledge moves inside I can't staighten it out anymore .

I need to keep it moving north and south and not east and west and from twisting too.

I'll spend whatever it takes to protect my knee from a torn ligament

Pancaker ,I'll take a 50% off next weekend when me and Pete come down to see ya ,that would be hella cool and would enable me to get the cf brace that would work the best .
See you next weekend man .

thanks a lot Pete you rock :Banane01: :Banane01: :Banane01:

Word up ! :Banane01: The engineering that goes into those braces is insane.
Like Yamasaki Said, they are for MX but they made them thinking to get
into the Wake board seen and they are made with being able to handle
water. See you next week.
