Hi All,

I suck when it comes to carbs and so could use some advice.

Current settings are;
1.5mm Needle and Seat + 95g spring = 43PSI popoff
130 main jet, 67.5 pilot jet
1.5 turns low speed, 2 turns high speed

it runs good but seems to hesitate a bit at lower speeds and especially off idle, doesn't have the low end punch, and to me it seems a bit rich but I am not sure how to tell for sure. I am still running 32:1 for breakin with 94 octane. Compression seems about 140PSI both cyl. but am not sure if my gauge is crap or not.

Do my current settings look right for my setup? It also has Boyesen reeds and cages, ATP waterbox with jetworks valve and a cutback Concord 13/17 if any of that makes a difference.

I am looking to get aftermarket flame arrestors soon and later a light weight flywheel, couplers and maybe an enhancer of some sort. For now though just the arrestors. If my current carb setup seems good should I be changing when I switch to AM arrestors? And if so any recommendations?

Thanks to everyone who takes the time,
Dan

Im no expert here either, but im runnin a very simular set-up to u.p-tec pipe, concord impeller but when i got the full wake up kit from p-tec ,it came with flame arrestors(dont tink thats ur problem dow. ive also a msd enhancer and they gave me the same carb spring as u 95g and also my pop-off is around 43.but they also gave me a new main jet from 130 stock to 135 bigger and my ski is pullin hard, runnin very well.ride ur ski hard (no idle) stop and check ur plugs) should be slight choco brown means ur high screws are on the money.if she is boggin from take off,try and adjust the low speed screws in 1eight segments in or out till it clears up. if that dont sort it out it could be an air leak usually at the crank seals. pull off the fly wheel cover and look for any signs of leakin oil, that seal usually the first to go.hope this helps.

Your jetting is leaner than stock.
I would put a 72.5 or 75 pilot jet in each carb and possibly a 135 main.
The popoff is also a bit low for stock arrestors - you might try 115g springs instead of the 95g.
When you put aftermarket arrestors on, the 95g will be just right.

Thanks for all the input guys. Just an update in case it helps. Yesterday at DDRR I opened the lows 1/4 turn and it got worse so I brought them in 1/8 from where they were and it seemed better. Still a little hesitation but less it seems. Also finished off the 32:1 gas and started putting 40:1 in it. I am guessing that is why it seemed to get a fair bit louder but could also account for the increase in response. The ATP waterbox is brand new and is super loud now. Was not nearly so load when running 32:1 but that could also be due to the flow control valve I installed or the fact that it was new but I really don't know.

Matt_E I will try your suggestions as I am ordering parts this week anyways.

OK, after a massive delay in getting my parts due to a mail strike I have rejetted the carbs and switched to a factory pipe with mod chamber.
My jets are now 75 and 135 and the ski blubbers like a schoolgirl trying to guzzle a quart of beer when trying to hold a constant throttle. I assume this is loading up like crazy?

Any suggestions? I did not change the pop-off or the flame arrestors yet as my primer goes into the stock FA and I will need to put fittings in the new ones first.

Not 100% on the compression. Last time I did a test it was closer to 148/148. As I said though I don't entirely trust my gauge, it is one I bought from Canadian Tire but the compressions do seem pretty even.

It is a stock head. Don't think it has been milled either but can't be sure without taking it off.

I am wondering if I damaged my reeds. I backfired the thing the first time I tried to get it running this season. JC said it has Boyesen reeds and cages.
