While I love John's (JSS) attention to detail and super-high quality of work, I have to recommend neither of your two choices and state to use teh OEM hood seal. The JSS hood seal requires you to have a perfectly flat match between your hood and hull, which is very difficult and unlikely to happen, without you doing a ton of sanding.

I would love to know if there is a good seal out there other than the oem. Great seal but a little pricey. Slutty found one a while back, I'd like feedback on that one.

Using TURF (not HT's actual hood seal) works really well. Just lay a strip of 5 mm rubber around the seal lip and then glue some turf on top of it.

It will push a nice groove into it and stop the hood from moving around. It also aloows the hood catch to be pulled down tight without any slop.

Slutty's original was hard near impossible to get, but having one it looks like it should work fine compared to OEM. If Im not misinformed he uses thick HT underpadding now so its very very tight fit.

I used HT's last year and it wore out in under a season. I am trying out the JSS seal this year and it looks to be quite a bit firmer and should hold up better than the HT one. If that doesn't work I will try just making a turf seal.

I've used JSS's seal and some material that was suggested last year.
I still have plenty of it left.
I want an OEM seal, but maybe I'll use up what I've got.

Ive got the older style JSS hoodseal.

and its ok to me, My hood hooks and latch are stock, but the front hood hooks are repositioned ( round nose pole on squarenose boat)

the boat does take on water, but I stuck a flashlight inside the engine compartment, and put the hood on, and I can see light in some places.

A taller more pliable seal would likely be better, but I have never had any issues with the hood coming loose.

I only ride flatwater though, no 30 foot throw aways or anything like that.

I will make my own seal next time though.

5 years now on that same seal. I may replace it this summer just for fun.

Hood is real tight and leak proof it works well for me.
