Japanese style footholds

I have been looking at the japanese style foot holds for the x2's .I priced them and they are wayyyyyyyyy out there,so that being said I am working on making a set. Here is where I am at so far.I am using the pvc foam product from Farco plastics,it is thermoformable so the first step is I cut out the pieces and heat them up to 150 degrees for a few minutes. Then I formed it around my shoe while it was warm and hold it till it cools,it only takes a minute to cool and retain shape. Then I spread it out slightly before it fully cools off.
Here is what I ended up with.

Okay one side is done, for anyone wondering this is going to be a mold,It is simply just glued with epoxy at the moment.I will glass it on both sides for strength, gelcoat it then use it to lay up parts on instead of making a reverse mold and pulling the parts that way,if I did it the other way this would just be a plug. The pics should hopefully fill in the blanks.

My thinking is you can either put your foot in them or put your foot in front and use them kinda like a wedge on a stand up.I also want to make them easily removable,I am still working on that part, maybe using wingnuts like they use on wakeboard boots.:fing02:

Wedo, if your interested in making a mold, come up with a price for a set. I will send $$$ over for them, they look great! If not, awesome work anyway!

Yeah I meant to gelcoat it Sunday but I was out of MEK,I picked up some yesterday so maybe I will get a chance to today.I am also working on a plug for the left side steering cover to cover up that nasty looking stainless piece on the trim.Pics will be up shortly on that one also.

So let me ask you this, would you want a set made out of fiberglass or carbon fiber? I am thinking of making both kinds for different prices of course.I have left room inside the mold for hydroturf padding to go.What would be a resonable price for a set of these footholds?

I couldnt tell you a reasonable price, depends on material cost and time. Carbon is sweeeeeeet, but if it drives the price too high then glass would probably sell better.

While we are on the topic of carbon x2 parts. If someone will make a carbon DCUT, Shortened, Jet Dynamics style rideplate.....I would probably take out a 2nd mortgage.

Wedo, I like your ambition and use of your glassing skills, but there is no way I'm putting my feet near holds that could potentially cause injury to my feet. At the ocean things somehow seem to go wrong easily and often, and I already ended up this year with black and blue toes. I do think however they might be best used for freestyle comp. during backflips where you need to be really locked in tite, be carefull guy's.

What I would like to see is some X2 specific hull sponsons, not some that were designed around other hulls.

Crab truefully these look like they would be easier to get out of than a lot of footholds I see mounted on standups,I'm all about flatwater anyway and plan to make these easily removable, more on that later, now I know what the jap versions cost they are ridiculous,I was thinking maybe $80.00 a set for a fiberglass-white gelcoated set,$125.00 for a carbon fiber set,let me know if I am in the ballpark or not.

I'll try an $80 set. If they work well I will get a carbon set for the 780. I was planning on raising them slightly with the mounts that I have in mind, to make sure there easy to escape from when you have to toss the ski 8feet in the air. They dont look any harder to escape from then the dakine straps I was using on my old hull.
