Is this right to do to a customer

I have a small business, and I just eat the card charge. it wouldn't be fair to the ones paying cash or check to pay more and people would be upset to pay a few dollars or pennies if you told them its 3% more when they hand you plastic.

for me plastic is good as I KNOW I am getting paid- sucks cause it can take a week to hit my bank especially if its discover.

the way I rationalize it is whatever makes my customers life easier/better and doesn't kill me is what is best.

I try to make everything as smooth as I can, hell its traumatic enough when your ski is broken and everything costs a bunch, why do I need to add to your suffering?

I guess if a company is hot enough they can be somewhat arrogant, but hopefully it won't be long before someone else comes along and provides better customer service.

all fees should be factored into the cost prior to the transaction....
adding additional cost after the fact will only cause problems

not really problems if your up front about it.......... for instance when some ask how much or I will take it, how you want payment, I will respond with "please add 3% if you want to use paypal". It not sticking it to them, it just an easier way to do the transaction. I could just say check or money order, but there will be a delay in getting the part shipped out until the check clears.....

***disclaimer, next to saki I am terrible about getting stuff shipped out, but I try to let everybody know that!!!!!!! I suck........ I did get some carbs shipped out on Monday that I got payed for over the weekend........woohoo........***

In my experience running a retail business, your credit card fees are 3-6% and you aggree with your service provider NOT to charge that fee on top of a purchase to your customer unless it is over a certain amount ( and you have that amount posted for your customers to see). If I remember correctly the amount is $300.
I would never charge that to a customer purchasing parts, etc. in my store. Selling a motorcycle or jet ski is a different story. If you're putting a $7000 dollar machine on your Visa, you would be charged the fee. There just isn't enough profit in a bike, etc. to allow for that.

Bingo. That is the key to customer service. So simple, and yet so often overlooked by a lot of businesses.

So who is it? I have no idea.

And yes, that should be factored in from the beginning or at least disclosed up front.

If Paypal is the companies preferred payment method, than they should eat the charges. Or like what was already mentioned, at least factor it in to the total.

If you only accept money via paypal then I feel that if you don't already have the extra expense factored into the price of your product then it is a cost the buisness should have to incur and not charge the customer a fee on top of the sale price. You have to have it already factored in even if you are a cash business as well becuase you can't have one price for if you pay with credit card/paypal fee's and another if you pay cash, it doesn't look good for you.

Sounds like BS to me Brent. The business should absorb the cost of paypal or credit cards unless the purchase price is very large. I know my sled dealer will only allow up to a $1000 to be put on a credit card toward purchase of a new sled. Balance must be payed for by check or cash.

this is a perfect example of how someone should handle a issue w/ a company...

D, I wish the majority of people on this site had respect for others like you have shown....

:bananalama:

fyi - If D, would have talked a bunch of trash about the company like people do on here, he probably would not have gotten a refund..

Nick, Thank you for the complement. I argue with people all day and you dont get any ware with negativity. Maybe is just because i'm old.

Also they will not be charging any paypal fees to other buyers until they figure out a new system. I really want to express thank you to them for being a stand up company.
