title says it?

sure..almost anythings paintable.. but its flexible so it will crack if its pushed on or stretched..

if you can clean up the area of the 5200 where you are trying to paint and then reapply new after its painted

what are you trying to paint?

Got a ski with tubbie 2's installed wit 5200 grrrrrrrrr I hate that shiot! I guess I will be grinding off the excess and filling with epoxy and filler then glassing over edges. If paint would adhere I would prolly just paint it and worry bout it lata! There is not alot of excess but I dont want the paint flaking off either.

5200 is good for putting on tubbies if you don't care about looks.
If you do care about looks, you'll have to do it the right way.

5200 is over rated in a lot of aspects, IMHO.

i agree... i swore by it during my build... but i dont think its half as strong as people crack it up to be.

it still silicone. it peels right off my tubbies. when i paint my ski ill remove the excess and glass them on the right way.

epoxy resin FTW

And if you must use messy stuff that can't be painted to fix your tubbies to the hull, use Bostik Marine adhesive (Blowsion sells it).

Much stronger.

You gotta prep right for 5200. It is strong as hell. It has it's place in life, but not in all places. Yeah it's messy but you can make it look good by smoothing it with acetone. It will thin with acetone as well.

Yeah a lot of comments by people who have no idea of how strong 5200 is ,I will tell you how strong it is though.Back when I worked at the Mastercraft dealership we had the big January boat show coming up.One of the comp ski boats went up on a big overhead rack where you could walk up under the boat. The owner got the bright idea that the fins under the boat needed to be polished. They are through bolted with 5/16 stainless screws and a layer of 5200 is put on them before the are installed. We removed all the screws and started to remove the fins.It ended up taking three people to remove the fins, one to crawl up under the boat and hold a piece of 4x4 post against the fin,one on the outside of the boat to hold the other end of the post and one to whack the post with a 25 lb sledgehammer, thats how strong 5200 is!

i sanded the crap outta the bottom of my hull to mount my tubbies... with 60 grit on a 90 degree angles air sander.

i used acetone to smooth it out as well... it looked nice for the first maybe 10 rides of the season... as soon as i blasted up onto a sandy beach it tore the 5200 right off the edges of the sponsons.

ill post up some pics of the way my sponsons look after one season of riding on them tomorow... the 5200 peeled right off in a bunch of spots...

A buddy of mine used 5200 to install his new 8' vhf antennae with a 3" dia. plastic ratchet base to his fiberglass runabout boat. No hardware. Its been through over 10 years of Alaska waters, which is fubar.

5200, if used right (and using the right 5200) is plenty strong.
Just sayin'....for some applications, there are better things to be using.

I have wondered if the Fast Cure was any different. The regular takes high humidity or underwater to cure tack free within 4 days.

Fast cure is quite a bit different.
Regular has 700 psi tensile strength.
Fast cure has 400 psi tensile strength.

Never said it wasnt strong bro, but its messy, takes FOREVER to set up, doesnt sand smoth and cant paint it!! And when you need or want to rome it, its a BIOTCH! I prefer epoxy and 404 filler myself! If you NEVER want it off spend the $$$$ and use some plexus! Just my opinion!
