FX-1 Intermittent starting problems

I recently bought a FX-1 and it runs great most of the time. Once in awhile when I hit the green start button, nothing happens. It doesn't crank, click, nothing. At first I thought the plugs that run from the start/stop switch to the CDI box were faulty, but they look good, I even put some dielectric grease in them. This past time when I tried starting it before I put the ski in the water it did it again. Eventually I got the engine to turn, but it kept cranking and wouldn't start then it sounded like something broke inside the casing where the fly wheel and stator is located. I stopped and did not try to start it anymore. I was going to work on it today and decided that before I started working on it I would see if it starts. The engine fired right up as soon as i pressed the start button (didn't even prime it). So I'm not sure where to go from here and am looking for any suggestions. I don't want to take it to Lake Michigan until this problem is resolved so I want to get it fixed asap.

Disconnect the start stop kill. black and white wire connection from the ebox. Leave it unplugged. Try to crank. Remember you will have to plug it back in to stop ski or choke it out. If it kills when u plug it in you have a bad ss swt.
