Does anybody got any good comparison pics of different FX scoops?
My new motor has a little more power than my old one, cant keep it hooked to the water as well as I used to.
The R&D one I got isnt a very good piece, not very aggressive.

Any info?

I've got the protec one, and it seems to work pretty well. The boat hooks up pretty well at speed even compared to my SXR with TBM in the rough stuff. But like was said at slow speed and during direction changes the pump is holding you back.

I'm pretty sure he has a 650 pump. RKM is no newb.

I have the protec grate as well, well did have (broke it on something). I need to order a new one but with the weather turning, I've been putting it off.

This one has a 650 pump...
Realistically for the type of riding I do this motor is too much, its more of a SJ motor.
This ski spends most of its time in the river, the lighter skis get the most aggressive grate possible, the heavier ones dont get a grate at all

If the protecs not any more aggressive, Ill just weld this up

Anybody got a good picture of a protec installed?

Welcome to the world of aftermarket! And l agree that JD has a good product, but the fit just is not there sometimes.l'll had to slot a hole on a my ride plate to get it to fit.But other than my D-cut,by far JD is the best for "my" riding.l have a protec scoop and ride plate, from time to time l will bolt it on to see if it is any better.Still like the JD.

Aftermarket can have good quality. JD's quality is some of the worst I have seen, for the price they charge. My intake grate is literally crooked, and I too had to slot ALL 4 of the ride plate holes to get it to fit.

The concave on my JD plate isnt even close to being symmetrical, its kinda sad.
I will say there 650sx plate is a far better casting than any of their others and fits beautifully every time.
Back to the point, anyone got any pictures of a JD intake or Protec?

Here are a couple pics from an FX-1 I had a couple years ago.
A while after I got it, I bought this JD grate and installed it. As you can see, it doesn't really fit at all. I asked some questions on another forum, sent some pics, and everyone said the same thing: JD stuff is terrible on their castings. Cut it to fit.
So, I did. I spent a whole bunch of time grinding. Eventually, I got it to fit better, but not perfect. Last year, I sold it because I had went back to the Pro Tec set up, and I had two other JD set ups on the shelf anyway.

About 2 months ago, I sell Idok one of my other FX-1 projects and during lunch and we start talking about this same issue, and I tell him the story of how it hangs down and I've always been scared it's gonna tear off my pump shoe, etc etc, so I don't use them.
He tells me that JD made it to be VERY aggressive, and it's supposed to fit that way. So, I just recently installed the JD plate and JD intake grate on another FX-1 that I have. I only surf/wave ride, so I must admit, I really like the idea that if you back off the throttle, the ski almost stops. And, when coming down off of jumping a wave, there is no cavitation with that set up. The tail comes down, you grab a handful of throttle, and the ski get's right back up on plane, where as with my R&D intake and my Pro Tec intake, they alot of the time will cavitate out in the surf.
The ONLY thing I like about the Pro Tec ride plate is that when you slide across the lip of a wave, it skates controllably (I know it's not a word), which is something I like.
I have 3 Pro Tec plates right now, and I rarely use them anymore. But I don't HATE them, just like the JD alot better.

I rode a 650sx with an intake similar to that. IMO, it made the freestyle more difficult but kept the pump hooked in every turn.

Im looking for a JD one if anyone has an extra. I have a stock one with the middle bar cutout I'd sell for cheap. I absoluely LOVE JD stuff. It's expensive, but you get what you pay for. I have yet to come across any casting flaws with the JD stuff I have purchased so far.....

You should see this rideplate I've got.
I picked up two of them, maybe two years ago, one used, one like new. Both for FX-1. Both of them have been sitting on my shelf.
This week, I put on on one of the builds I'm working on so I could take it out and try it.
The gaps were unexcusable. Front and both sides.
Honest, no exaggeration, I'll bet they were almost 1/4 inch on all three sides, maybe more.
Pathetic.
But they work nice.
