Other Injuries Due to Riding a Stand Up..

Hey guys, post your stories of all the injuries you've gotten from riding a stand up ski. I've read here some horror stories such as ripped off balls etc.
It would be good to know past experience and try to avoid same mistakes as much as we could.

Here are mine not so bad stories:

1. minor damage to the medial collateral ligament (MCL) on my knee. Reason: bad shoes (bulky, heavy). Put me out for 2 months
2. Multiple skin bruises. Reason: decided to ride nasty surf in front of jetties, didnt pay attention and a wave blasted me off and pushed me straight to the rocks. Bruises healed in 2 weeks.
3. stretched biceps tendon. Reason: I have no idea how that happened, but one of these times trying to barrel roll, ski fell on top of me. I did not let go the ski, however the rapid impact into the water with such weight on my arm somehow injured the tendon. I was glad my elbow did not snap instead... 3th week and still feel pain every time I force it.

A friend of mine who is member here recently cracked his heel. Really bad injury. Reason: not enough padding on the tray. He actually landed on the aluminum bow eye which caused the injury. At least two months out...

What are your stories and lessons to be learned?

staying in your foot holds while attempting BRs will help prevent injuries like ski landing on top of your head lol :)

I've only been riding for about 3 weeks, but

1. lots of bruises
2. separated rib (thankfully healed within a week)
3. I have really loose shoulders so my left (weaker) shoulder keeps getting pulled out of socket
4. crazy bad tendonitis in left elbow
5. The front trim cover on my SN flew off on a nose dive and hit me in the head:17:

I need to do some strength training to solve most of my problems.

Dislocated hip. Reason: Being a fat lazy :):):):) during winter and not staying flexible and in shape.
Also lost a few toenails riding 550's without shoes. (hood strap latch is sharp).

OH! Pull that little board waxing comb thingy out of your board shorts. I had one puncture my calf through the pocket once.

Busted eardrum, stitches several times, serious contusions, though I've never broken a bone in my life and I should have several times, partial labrum tear in shoulder, etc etc.

The worst though is probably the long term knee and ankle issues from 19 years of riding. That was a factor in me getting out of the sport, though not a primary reason. Way too many landings over the years I guess.

JM781 Big Bore
Permanent bald spots on both legs from footholds.
Contact lenses blasted into the back of my head.
Bruised ny tailbone once from landing on the side of the ski with my arse.

Wow! I know folks that have broken eardrums on rolls, but never realized how common!

I tore my medial meniscus resulting in simple surgery...years ago. Otherwise, just the usual aches and pains that go with an aging jet-skier. lol.

So many of these and blown sinuses.

I also seem to alway smash my right thumb upon landing, thus in mid-roll i change my grip to set it on top of the grips instead

broken thumb
over extended ankles and knees
concussions (broke helmet and hood at the same time)
dislocated shoulders
re-broke my wrist but kept riding just wrapped in duct tape. (not my proudest moments)

thats all i can remember for now

Blown both eardrums... One so bad it bled for 3 nights and had to be pulled out of the water because loss of balance. Smacked my face on the ski several times from attempted barrel rolls or nose stabs that went bad... Tendinitis in my left elbow, I guess from constant braapage...fractured bones in both feet from not staying in footwells when making sloppy attempts at tricks...

I wear helmet every time I ride (flat or surf), no matter if others think its gay or overkill lol :). My helmet already has several cracks on the chin area from hitting the ski literally head on..

Wear helmet guys, its good for the brain :)

Ive only been riding seriously for this season. Luckily only brusies and pulled muscles. I forget this is like any athletic sport and its important to stretch a little before just going hard out of nowhere. I pull that muscle that goes from shoulderblades to neck all the time.

Tore my subscapularis tendon off my shoulder and tears in both supraspinatus tendons as well in one shot.. held on to a under rotated backflip in the surf, and had ski come in on me in just the right way..
still recovering from surgery i had in july. fracturd/ broken stuff many times before , this prob the worst to go through for me so far.. the recovery/phys threapy is the worst part. hear my ski calling though.. :)
