Super Jet Impeller Swap from stock to stainless

What is the best way to get the impeller out of the pump? If anyone in the Oceanside Ca area is able to help, that would also be awsome. I have the pump loose from the ski. Should I put the screws back in and remount the pump and get it loose while its coupled to the motor? Im thinking that might not be a good idea cause of the bearings and seals going through the hull...dont wanna damage those or the motor. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks. -chris

First, what kind of ski is it? Kawi and Yamaha prop removal is different. Either way, you need some special tools. I can do it for you but I am going to World Finals this afternoon so The soonest will be Monday (Oct 10th) BTW who is this? Do I know you?

So Thanks for all the advice. Ya John we've met before at the ramp. My buddy Tanner and I used to ride a long time ago and I have recently gotten back in the water. I was with Curtis Marker a couple of months ago and we talked.

I got the Impeller off fairly easy with a vice that happened to have a pipe grip. Now I have ran into a prob with the new impeller. Looks like I need a new wear ring/housing. I have the stock Yamaha one from 91 on there right now. Talked to Ross and he explained how they shrink over the years which makes a lot of sense since the impeller is ground down on the edges pretty good and the aluminum shell/housing has a crack.

Now I believe I need a new case. I'm thinking new is the way to go.... but do I need a sleave to match the case....should the case come with it pressed in?? The loose sleaves i'm seeing are plastic. Im wondering if the stainless is pressed in like it came stock? Is plastic better so it doesnt shrink? The impeller I recently purchased looks like it will fit if I get a wear ring/housing. The impeller I purchased is a stainless steal Solas for a round nose 96' and newer. I looked up the part number and that is what came up. I was told that it would fit my ski. Got a great deal on it.

If anyone has any thoughts on new vs used wear rings...that would be cool. everything mechanical about my ski is stock 650 sn sj 91' stuff. Sorry it took so long to respond. Your suggestions helped. Thanks,

Chris

Chris, sorry that you have to go through all this.

Don't you dare buy a used wear ring! (Im the expert, trust me.) And do NOT get the plastic ring.

You need to buy a new wear ring from GreaterYamaha.com. I just bought one off of them and they are the cheapest new ($150ish). I will be more then happy to help you with install and anything else if I'm up there after a ride.

Call me with any other questions.

there is the housing...and the wear ring on the inside of the housing. The cast aluminum housing was what cracked. The wear ring looked fine. Apparently it happens when the two metals are introduced to salt water and one shrinks and the other doesnt. its a small crack and if the impeller would have fit...i would have ridden it as is. Skat track can re work it apparently. But Im pretty sure with the crack Ill just go ahead and pop for the new one. Im thinking of just getting a new stock one...unless anyone says different.

Chris don't bother fixing the old one, just get a new one from Greater Yamaha like Kevin said. In the mean time if you still need any help shoot me a PM, I am back in town and will be here until Thursday afternoon (Oct 13th) I'm heading up to Pismo after that and won't be back until Tuesday Oct 17th
