i'm still learning here.

so the SJ flys higher? i see couches and boats getting air too, cant an SXR do it also if you make it quick off the bottom?

I gonna buy one, realy. SJ or SXR.
Decisions,Decisions.

Sxrs will fly good in the surf. V bottom couches realy dont catch as much air in the surf due to the V in the hull they sink further into the wave. This is what makes SJ's, Blasters, SXR's, and X'2s such great surf skis, they are pretty much flat bottom.

I dont think you can beat the reliabilty of the 701SJ motor, all you need is a pipe, high comp head, and impeller to realy make an SJ rip.

The same mods on a SXR will rip too, but you are still lugging around that extra 60lbs.

SJ's are just far more nimble then the SXR's that is why people say SXR for racing, SJ's for everything else.

You can still rail corners on a SJ, Tubbies realy help in this department.

If you dont plan on racing I would go with the SJ, I think I would get bored on a SXR in flat water conditions, unless of course there were bouys out and a few guys putting down some hot laps.

Just 2 more pennies.

tubbies is/are the answer
If you put tubbie 2s on a sj with the right ride plate (JD IMO) then you will like the way it handles but its like riding on a spoon at high speeds. The SJ will never handle like an SXR, period... thats why you dont see SJs at races anymore... Part of it has to do with the extra 60 lbs though... if you are just going to go out in the surf and jump waves and not try to do tricks and you want to carve around on flat water I would recommend an SXR....

Riding the SJ and SXR back to back the SXR definitely heavier but you can get good air with it. IMO the SXR is the standup for the masses. The SJ in stock form is nothing special. You need minimum $2-3K in mods just to make it decent. As far as how challenging each ski is. The SJ is more difficult for the beginner to ride but once you know how to ride the SJ is no more or less challenging than the SXR. To me they are both fairly easy (then again, I cut my teeth on a JS hull). What's nice about the SXR is that you can carve awith confidence at much higher speed than the SJ or SXI Pro. You can lean the ski over till your elbow is in the water then pop right back up. Yes its heavy but it's an incredible hull design.

Either way, whichever ski you choose to ride, it is guaranteed to be much much much much smaller and waaaay more challenging and addictive than any couch.... ever.

A superjet only really needs a pipe, prop, and grate. Grand total of about 800 bucks to wake it up.

You could put a wetpipe, prop(optional) and grate on a SXR for roughly the same price and eat the SJ up! To each his own. As for how SJ's flying higher, it's a question of if you got the cajones to keep the throttle squeezed going up a 8ft wave!

My final 2cents worth-the SXR was SUPER easy to turn into a freestyle ski-ie-pipe install, mashers install, and so on, so fourth. The SXR has been hard to learn tricks on-nose stabs and such, cuz it took me 5 months to realize that all the little 'pre-hop' bs u HAVE to do is upsetting the attitude of the hull and making it 'throwable'. I like the SXR cause I don't have to worry about breaking a hull vs having to reinforce the SJ hull and having the 're-foam issue'. It's gonna take me a while-but I hope I can get good on the SXR and if I aint made no improvement by this time next year I might back up and punt.

Sxrs for racing, buoys, and carving. Superjet for recreational fun and freestyle.

yes i agree, but they do have a lighter hood u can buy and for those of u who own 1 u know that the hood weighs a ton. but u can also get a 750. i have a 750 sxi that been bored and a factory pipe with i think 36mm carbs, but i dont remember. all it wants to do is jump out of the water so tha kawi boys have fun as well for them SJ's

Lets see:

SXR:

1. Faster
2. No reinforcment needed
3. No refoaming needed
4. No intake grate or impellor needed
5. Bigger displacement (its allready an 800!)

SJ:

1. Lighter
