I need some quick help!

Ive been doing a good bit of sanding to prep my 550 for paint and i cam across a nice crack right at the nose of the ski (probably from using the hole in the front to pull it out of the water, the last owner had a bolt through it which gave it enough leverage to bend the nose).

What are 550 hulls made of? if i sand it down to the white stuff (past the paint) can i just add a little glass or will it not bond to it?

Also how does the plate with the fule selector and choke come off? i removed the four bolts but the plate, and ebox, seem stuck in place really good and i dont wanna break anything, but having that plate off would make life alot easier right now.

I have a crack on my 440 and I glassed it and havent had any problems. I say just glass it. Also the plate is probly stuck on my silicone. I used a blowdrier to heat the plate up some and it turned look fairly easy. It sounds like you got all the bolts out, I would try heating it and use a flat bar to break it loose.

Anyone else care to chime in before i start glassing? im also thinking about filling some scratches on the bottom of the hull with resin, but will it fall out since its painted?

Another question, im paiting with acrylic enamel (aerosol unfortunately, didnt want to wait for liquid enamel to ship).

Can i wet sand the paint when after a week or so of drying? Im not sure how its going to turn out being a rattle can job, but if i can wetsand and polish it, im thinking it shouldnt be bad. If i do wet sand, should it be cured enough it a week or should i wait longer?

I think those skis are made of SMC and repairs should only be made with epoxy resin, not polyester like you would get from Walmart or the like.

I am not sure, but I think this is the case, if it is more of a cosmetic thing thn structural you may get by with poyester.

I have no clue on the 550 hull, but it's probably SMC, meaning you have to use epoxy resin with your fiberglass for repairs, the regular resin you buy at the parts store won't cut it. Not sure though, could be wrong, I have no clue what those hulls are made of.

Hmm, i thought what i have in the shop is epoxy resin, but im probably wrong. Im thinking about adding a layer or two of glas to the tray cause i can almost feel a little flew in one spot. I used an orbital attachment to sand the tray and part of the rails where the turf used to be, and i just kept going all the way through the paint and glue form the turf so now its down to the SMC.

So assuming i can get some epoxy resin its safe to glass my tray and the cracks in the front? And will the resin still bond if there is some paint? i know it wont be strong, but for the scratches im just hoping they will smooth out. If the epoxy resin is to expensive or i cant get it in anytime soon, ill just skip it, im trying to keep investments at a low for now.
