Super Jet I Need a little insight SN to RN swap over

My brother wants to do a SN to RN swap . I have a RN hull he has a 1994 or 95 SN . Need to know all the things that I'll need to do the swap.

Read thru the list if you ...... KNOW ..... of something I need to consider then please post . Thanks for the help trying to keep him from being blind sided by the un expected cost.

1. Water box and exhaust hose .

2 . Pole bracket and pole . He has an ac pole (would love to keep it )

3. Mid shaft ( will a 95 sn work ? )

Every single piece in my RN hull came straight out of a SN.
I have heard that the 95 mid shaft is a little different length than the 94 that all my stuff came out of though. As long as it is not shorter you will be good.

water box and exhaust hose should work. I am still running the SNs

Sn pole is a bit wider so if the pole is setup or a SN you will need to stick with a sn bracket. If you are currently running thick spacers on either side where the pole goes though then the pole is RN width and can be used with a RN pole bracket.

The ride plate will still work. you just one use the 2 middle bolt hole in the ride plate because the RN mounts with 4 instead of 6

He will need a new steering cable since the SN doesn't have as much throw as the RN

Can't you make a Macmastar carr extension and put it on the turn plate side ?

First rule of thumb! Do not deal with family members,it may come back and bite you in arse! Questions?:wiggle:

i believe the older midshafts will fit in the rn housing because the shaft is the same, but the older shafts have a different coupler thread. aftermarkets dont fit the early superjet. jetmaniac had a good post called midshaft talk in the drivetrain section that compares all the differences with pictures

The differences between the SN and RN midshaft housings only apply to '90-93 squares. '94 and on models (SN, FX, RN) all use the same housing. The shaft itself may have a different thread diameter, but unless you are upgrading to billet or RN couplers you will not have to change anything. If you are changing couplers then you will need a new midshaft (only the shaft) to match the newer style coupler threads.

As long as his ski is a '94+ it will bolt right into a RN.

The waterbox on a RN has a larger inlet diameter than the SN box. If I remember correctly the exhaust tube is the same diameter ( I could be wrong).

As for poles, like said earlier - if it is a true SN pole, you will probably need a new setup. Personally, if it is an AC SN pole, just sell it for a RN pole and bracket.

Other than that, everything else is a straight bolt in swap.

The exhaust tube in the RN hull is larger diameter than the SN tube. Easy fix, though. Just stretch the hose out, like your giving a prostate exam. A little lube might help. :moon:
OR, get a reducer if you want to do it the hard way. At least you'll be able to use all the other SN parts.
