Mongo like pictures. Send em'. I ran through the posts concerning your ignitions. Sounds like good stuff. Are they a completely unique design or did you build off of an existing base circuitry? I just ask because I have worked with electronics / computers for years. More computers these days, but I have always either built projects or done various repairs over the years. I know you cannot get into too much detail but I just was curious as to what kind of chipset or timing circuitry you were basing them from.

i have been having this argument on pwctoday
some one with a stock boat thinks he ski is the fastest and that a aftermarket ignition doesnt give you more power even than you can program the curve

first off "this guy" is starvin marvin. second off, hes probably right. Ive ridden his skis, which are the same as schmitty and Maloneys ( goggle grip) skis. They are crazy fast and have a stock ignition. he was not bashing you AT ALL. simply stating his opinion and experience.

so why bring it over here and stir the pot?

Im sure an aftermarket ignition gains alot of performance, but the cahnce of you guys running similair setups are slim. by that i mean water routing, carb work, etc...

his stocker is THE fastest stocker ive ridden, hands down

I dont see how he could be right.

if a boat set up in X way, with a stock ignition goes well.

then a boat set up in X way with a more aggresive timing curve will likely do better.

that seems awefully simple to me too Wax.

I think what they are trying to dispute, is the fact that $400 spent somewhere else might get them more on race day.

possibly so, but they didnt state it that way, and they are trying to rationalize their way out of the argument.

Just my opinon.

what a bunch of effing morons on that site.

take ANY ski with whatever mods (or none at all) and a stock cdi.

then take the same ski and put in an a/m programmable ignition.

how is the ski not going to do better w/ the a/m ignition?

rider skill level has nothing to do with the equation.

morons, i tell ya!

You setup has to be able to benefit from an advance in ignition.

BUT- saying that you cannot get anything from a programmable ignition is just idiotic.

Nobody is saying that you cannot get anything from a Programmable ignition, The point is that on some setups, racers are finding that just by adding an ignition may not be the best combo for their setup............ if you have never built up a stock class racer, then you may not be able to understand..........

with each mod you do, there can be an adverse effect............ just like anything.......... It is all about the combination.......... The argument is more about Cost vs. Benefit analysis........... ( I will throw in a disclaimer), on the 03's you have to run the aftermarket CDI, the 04-06's have a completely different CDI and Timing Curve......... Hence the explanation about not needing an AM CDI (At least on the 04-'s, not that much gain for the cost to justify the money spent......... But, This is not saying that you cannot get an stocker to run good with a AM CDI............

The original question was what were some tricks to setting up a Stock Class SXR........... several racers who have the experience posted what they have found and are getting bashed for it............. that the same as saying you opinion sucks.......

lol! i think it was EFFING moron, harrison! but only when youre on that site:biggrin:

actually, your post was more of a comparison between the '03 sxr's and '04/'05.

it wasnt effing moronic like some peoples' were.

you WILL gain power from a fully programmable ignition over stock on an otherwise stock boat if you program it correctly. would you disagree w/ that?
