hate to be the bearer of bad news but that glass will eventually peel off of there.
internal repair is the only way for it to last.

I think if he blends it well, it should hold up fine.

Have fun sanding that though... good lord.

For future reference, take some plastic wrap to put over the fiberglass to leave you with a somewhat smooth layer on top so you don't have to sand as much.

thanks... I used my grinder to sand it... sanding was taking way to long by hand... I was just careful... ended up looking decent... you can still tell it was glassed if you look at it if you get close to the ski... if I had more time I would have put a little skim coat on the glass to give me a smooth finish.... but I didnt have enough time with us leaving tomorrow right after work for daytona... I barely had enough time tonight to paint it.... appliance paint is drying now with some heat lamps on it... next will screw/5200 the exhaust flange and vin # back on...

I tried to blend the area very well and I epoxy appliance painted over the whole area plus extended it a bit onto some good prepped gelcoat so maybe that will help it keep from peeling...

BTW- Yamaha put the VIN back there by the exhaust flange.

Thanks for the input guys.. See some of you in Daytona!!!

to prep that for paint you need to mix resin with some sort of a fairing/filler..

lay that on with a spreader smooth(saran wrap works well for making it nice and smooth)... then sand with 340-400 grit sandpaper and you should be good to go for paint.

EDIT: didnt read page 2 until after i posted this.
figured you were on a deadline for daytona.
im sure it will work fine for a temporary fix. it may peel up over time. when that happens just fix it from the inside and you wont have any more problems
