Last night I’m prepping my ski for Daytona and lookie what I find (see below):
Questions:
1) why did this happen? My guesses are: gap between foam and glass in that area since that’s where they stuck in the exhaust tube… that + hits from rolling would do it…. Or water got in there and froze and cracked it… anyone see this before?
2) what do you guys do before painting fiberglass? Just sand? Or do you put on a skim coat of resin and then sand? Is it easy to sand it smooth without seeing fibers showing through?
3)I used some filler/epoxy, then about 3-4 layers of 12oz biaxial to fix the area…. I started with the filler to fill the crack… then a small 2-3” strip over the crack, then 2 large 7-8” pieces over the whole thing that go from the bottom all the way up into the side rail…. Some areas might have 4 layers since some overlapped on purpose… do you guys think this is enough to be strong enough again?
Can’t believe this happened…. Just glad I should have it fixed good for Daytona…
