Guys, tell me if this is possible. A buddy is wanting to paint the underneath of his ski.

-Is it possible to take a engine puller and hook onto the either the front eyelet or rear eyelet on the ski and hang it to paint it?? Or is the eye just going to crack off/rip out etc?

-the motor would still be in the ski, gas tank removed.

that is probably a retarded question, but also, I know alot have painted the bottoms, what do you think would be the easiest or best way to to this?? up for any opinions...

k, well what about this...let the rear actually sit on the rear rub rails on the ground and slowly lift the front of the ski up with the engine hoist...that way all the weight isnt just hanging? and go to about a 45 degree angle so the motor mounts will be ok? make sense?

--basically like if you came up to a long log. picked one of it up and left the other end on the ground...?

ah! always gotta make fun the midwest guys.!...:shooter3:

we were trying to get by without doing the motor right now. Just wanted to get a halfway ok paint job on it for now...paint, prep, chemicals, guns, etc isnt the problem, just wondering what the easiest way to shoot a black bottom to last some of this summer would be...

--and ill look into pulling the motor...maybe I can get some respect our way j/k...

why dont you take two ratchet straps from each boweye and attach em to the walls of your ski shack and crank em till its elevated...then you can rotate as you spray..thats what i plan on doing when i paint my new rn..my motor will be out but i dont think the motor mounts will rip out if the ski is upside down...they only rip out if you land that way:banghead:

of course they don't - but how long do you think the mounts will last with a ski upside down for sanding, filling and painting?

At least 24 hours in my experience - had my ski upside down for some emergency hull repairs with no problem at all. I dare say the motor would hang there for a good while. I do like the idea of wedging some kind of stand underneath it of you're worried though.

All this time atalking about it, ytou could have had the motor out and the bottom already primed.

I painted my hull last night, funny this thread showed up.

I can't wait to show some pics on here, but until the build is complete there is no point of a thread. I like the 1 post build threads, than everyone can just comment and ask questions instead of having the pictures and how to's broken up between pages

I hooked the front of my hull to an engine hoist to paint it. No motor in it but it didnt have any problems.

Mounts shouldn't be an issue. Pancaking a backy is way harsher on mounts than just flipping it over and letting it sit there. If mounts were that fragile, there would be a lot more problems with them. I wouldn't worry about it.

Be careful if you put it upside down for a long period of time. My best friend did that with his 01 SJ and his mounts slowly gave out and came off the hull after the 4th day upside down. Luckily he had a couple of 2x4's under the engine to catch it. I would just pull it out and paint it then, it does not take long with the right tools.

They were ready to go already then. I've turned skis upside down w/ motor in the ski for days. When I replaced the pump shoe in the blaster, it sat upside down for a few days with no problems.
