How to drill through ez-out

So I f'd up my head pipe trying to fix it myself. I broke off an ez-out into one of the adjusters. I tried to drill through it but had no success. The bit would just dance around. I just proceeded to push the ez-out further into the adjuster screw.

My question is:

Is there a special drill bit or technique to get through an ez-out?

I included a picture to give you an idea of what kind of mess i put myself in.

I would purchase a new one, but as you all know FPP is sold out. They claim March, but I do not want to wait any longer. I need it ready for Pismo.

Quit fooling around with it. You will make it worse. If you do manage to drill into it, you'll break off the drill bit inside the ez-out (ask me how I know).
This is beyond your abilities. (most likely)
I speak from experience. I have done this a couple of times.

Stop, and take it to a good (!) machine shop.

sure theres an easy way to remedy your problem ....send the head pipe to me and i'll replace it with this nice shiny new one that even says YAMAHA real big on it :deal:

no seriously a machine shop can mill it out in like 3 minutes

You can also use left handed drill bits for this type of application. I have some snapon's and they word very well when something is broken off inside.

EDM machine is what they use to burn out the easy-out and the rest of the broken screw.
The only machinable way is to mill out with a carbide spade drill and you run it at a very high speed and solidly mounted in the mill.
The homey way is to use like a 1/16 up to 1/8 drill bit and drill in a complete circle around it to remove all the bad then have it welded completely up then re-machine new threads.

Take it someplace good or send it to Chucky. He works wonders! I used to own a machine shop and the guys there tried to show me a bunch of times how to get them out, no luck. Maybe I'm a slow learner. :sadwavey:

Yep, I have been ther too... EZ outs only work if the bolt is barely stuck in the hole. If it is corroded in.. forget it!

I have some nice reverse drilling bits from Sears. They work nice but again, it is it stuck... don't even attempt it!

You need heat! WD40 and PB Blaster are a joke to a seriously stuck bolt...

i read somewhere about taking some alumium powder or something cant remember what it was but you can get it at a grocery store and you boil the water with the head pipe in it and it will keep eating away at the broken bit or easy out and turn in into like a rust sluge ill have to search for it again

oh man, thats why easy-outs get their bad reputation, when they work its great, but about half the time they break off........makes you wish you just re-drilled and tapped in the first place...dosent it?
