how much will i need to mod my 01 sj for freestyle?

i'm buying an '01 stock sj next week and i'd like to start to learn freestyle tricks as soon as i get comfortable on it. i've only riden kawasaki standups. eventually i'd like to be able to do a flat water (or off of wakeboard boat wake) barrel rolls. i know it will probably take some time.

my question is roughly how many mods and estimated cost am i going to have to put on my stock roundnose to be able to do barrel rolls and other freestyle tricks?

thanks as always.

It's not a matter of how much money, but rather how little you're willing to eat so you can pay for parts

Roll first. learn to ride later. I plan on learning how to ride one day.

:haha::haha: That just made my day! For real though, just go out there and :splatt: then you will figure out how to :brap:

I know you and I are similar cracker.

I rode a SJ for a few hours before I bought mine. the first day I rode mine I was pancaking rolls. I couldn't even turn without falling. I just aimed for a wave and hucked it. I still fall to much.

don't worry about mods just ride. you can do lots of junk on a stock boat.

thank you. that's reassuring.

i'm wrench illeterate. my skill set pretty much ends at changing plugs. don't mind a few mods or paying a shop to do some stuff, but if i'm going to have to do a "build" then i've going to have problems. and i could probably buy 2 roundnoses for the amount it would cost for a shop to do a bunch of mods for me. plus, i have 3 boys, a girl and a wife with expensive taste so not sure how much i'll be able to spend on mods.

hopefully i'll be able to just do some simple mods like pipe, impeller, handling mods, and still be able to do at least inverted subs.

oh that's great. and i'm sure reliability lessens with more mods.

if i got an fx-1 instead, would that require less mods?

I just got my 02 SJ and took it out for the first time yesterday and again today. It is getting easier, but whoa it is unstable while standing, on my knees I can do donuts now all day long, but they have no skin left. I'm just working on how much pressure to put on each side while turning standing up so I don't get dumped every time i turn halfway sharp. This thing is a blast though and you'll love it, I can tell already that this thing(stock minus plate/grate, prop, and bilge and another small thing or two) has plenty of power to do a lot of tricks, sure I don't expect to do inverted tricks on the lake with stock power, but the hull needs reinforcing and footholds first anyways.

I say just get one and ride while its still summer, and work on building it up this winter when you won't be able to ride anyways(unless your immune to hypothermia), thats what I am doing, mainly just cheap hull mods for me(footholds, hydroturf, reinforcing, modding stock hood), maybe head milling and a pipe. You don't need a modded beast this season anyways, its going to take you a while just to be able to ride it well before you even think about flips. My superjet is about the most unstable thing I've ever ridden, but wow is it fun. But for now, just ride with stock power, learn to ride stock and then add more power when you are ready for it.

take it in stride even with no mechanical know-how you can do everything yourself. you don't need very many tools either. Its nice to know whats going on with your ski. get good with what you have then the mods will be that much more effective.
