The bore size wont make a huge difference, mabe a little but you get the power from the porting that needs to be done with the bigger bore. A bump up in compression will also add some performance.

Actually, keeping a stock stroke, if you go from a stock bore 701 (81mm) to a big bore 85mm bore you end up with a 772. Thats ~70ccs more displacement. I'm betting that with the same builder doing the porting the same way in each, you will feel a difference.

thats roughly the difference between a 6m6 650 ( 633) and a true 701 61x right?

but the stock port sizes ( intake and exhuast) are bigger on the 701, so its a large difference.

Id save the overbore(ability) for future engine top end jobs, and spend the $$ on a good port job.

big bore sleeves leeve you with extra bore sizes for the future you are talking about big boring the standard he is talking about new sleeves
i am thinking of going this way also will be interesting to see the remarks

Here's how I would start your build with a certain budget in mind, Stay away from porting and big bore stuff for now. Start with 62t cases, 61x stock cylinder and 62t stator and flywheel. Buy all your bolt-on parts first, B-limited chamber factory pipe with my updated mods done to it, ADA head with some real strong compression ratio's for freestyle riding in mind, Use a Advent CDI with a real curve that makes power, Dual 44's or 46's set up by an expert for this type of riding, then prop it and tune nozzle size for hit and then you can worry about if you want to do all the stuff related to freestyle riding, Trick X-Metal handpole, footholds, tilt up trim system and then get to work on the riding it to the max...
P.S With a MSD-TL and a very mild freestyle port job set up on Av gas you would have a motor like Shane's that Mike Serlin won the sick trick on in Daytona! (1mm over at 718cc's)

gotcha CAMBO, so he is talking about boring the cylinder to accept a larger sleeve.

thats not a cheap mod then huh?

and it will likely have to be port matched anyway?

Im curious too then, the $COST$ VS. POWER on big bore sleeves, VS a ported stock bore 61x cylinder.

i just need a motor to start off the season with i have both 61x and 62t motors complete.I have 2 62760 cylinders and a fully sport ported 61x and stock 61x and a 61x that needs sleeves.if you check my build post out i need a motor for the ski im building to get season goin.i have a pipe and carbs.as soon as my hull is done im gonna start writeing a program for a billet cylinder with 84mm bore and 61x port timing

just curious why the 62t stator and flywheel?

Because the Advent won't work with the 61x ignition, and Greg , in all his infinite wisdom isn't bright enough to figure it out. Even with others giving him the timing difference, and parts to use, including a ski. Greg doesn't actually program the curves, he tries to hire others until they get sick of him. He's a pretty good guy if you like the liar/weasly type.

I'm trying to figure out why everyone seems to think the ADA heads are so great? Surely can't be the cheap girdle kit, nor the occasional bad domes. Must be because they are about the cheapest head out there, pro-design made a serious head, too bad Tom was always kinda slow filling orders. I know he has a few left, I just bought one. :)

Yes, I know that Greg does have some trouble with his CDI's ...But we have no other choice right now! MSD-TL or Advent! Wax's CDI is not produced yet, MSD enhancer is just a get by, with a adjustable rev limiter (no real curve to make HP) and Vilders not easy to get or practical on expense or support...
So it's mostly Advents for me on surf and everyday builds and MSD-TL for the real HP set-ups and a bit of work to run in saltwater, But can be done as just as I proved this weekend at Daytona... (sickest trick winner-Shanes boat, Bogies 5mm lamey PV, and Micheal Ratti with his 2 place national place winning 781cc big bore all use MSD-TL's).
I use ADA heads as they are very user friendly for a bunch of different types of motors you can build like when you want to run 5mm stroker and have a positive deck pop-up the domes are thick enough to machine out and not have cracking and o-ring problems associated with other brands and ADA's are priced right for everyones budget. I always like to build big bore re-sleeved 85mm bore motors as you can't beat making power for starters with a bigger motor, But get all the bolt-on stuff setup first, then step up to a big bore kit, then you can have a real advantage to make the most of the power with the bigger cc's with the properly relocated porting spec's for freestyle power.

why do you like the T fly's better? they are slightly heavier, and it has always seemed the consensus that the X wheel was better for freestyle/freeride

615 Freeriders are addicted to T1 madness.

The X flywheel wont work with Advent, and he is an Advent or T/L kinda guy. I would like to try advent, but keep hearing horror stories of replacing once or twice a year.

Like I said, what choice do you have? It's very clear for me I want to make HORSEPOWER, so right now it's Advents or MSD-TL's, You must use 62T flywheel and stator with the Advent CDI to make them work... Greg found out the supplier changed to a different brand in his parts and that was a killer for him to find out what was wrong with them...He's been pretty good now without any failures!
