300/440/550 how much can a 440 handle

i got this 440 kawi iv had it for a year finally got it going,
motor has 120 on both cylinders,
got a new stainless impeller casue the old one was worn out,
already has the pump housing with the stainless ring in it,

its my first one and i know i suck at riding it but it just does not seem to have the punch to it, im guessing its how it is but it just wont get up and plane out.
kind of just drags ass in the water, does not sound like it revs up all the way,

are these things just that bad or should it pop up and ride out decently, im not expecing it to do 80 but im sure it should do at least 20 right ?

ohh and for the record im 6'4" 200 lbs if that helps lol

Find something like a 650 Sqare Nose Superjet to start if you really want to whip something around.

if your on a budget go for a 650/750 and have fun. I Love old school skis but that 440 just wont get you were you would like to be. You will just end up putting too much money into it. Sell it for cheap and start off with a different ski with a little more motor and pump to back it.

About $750.00 buck's will get you a conversion providing you are a fairly decent mechanic and do alot of reading about the conversion. If you do not have tool's and a place to do it then don't bother. On the other hand if you like wrenching and also enjoy jet ski's go for it yeah the 550/650 conversion ski is a blast we have 3 of them.Good Luck

but on the other end you can part with your 440 and pick up a 650 square for 700 if you have that, i think a conversion is alot less though if you use your current parts, and pick up a ski for about 100 bucks somewhere, thats waht i did

i need help asap, i got a guy who wants to trad me like 2000 bucks worth of diving equiptment for this ski, and it needs to be alittle more peppier,

anybody got any ideas what might be wrong with it, he wants to ride it before we do the trade adn i have no problem with it but im afraid its not gonna be what its suposto be if ya get what im saying he said hes like 180 lbs, im over 200, but i dont know,

how much of a differnece would it make if i got to much oil in the gas, im thinking i should drain the gas and mix it again, cuse it smokes pretty good i might have it mixed to rich ?

inot sure casue i put eneough oil in it for 3 gallons of gas at 40:1 but i did it before i put the gas in it and i dont think i put that much gas in it, probaly like 2 gallons if that, so its probably wayyy to rich with oil, that could be my problem right there, tonight im gonna empty the gas and start from scratch and see what hapens

ok so it might have a blown hg slightly, tested compression again today and all of a sudden its 100 and 120 so i pulled the head off and im gonna have it shaved a LOT bump up the compression a little and put her back together and see what happens should have it back up adn running tomorrow

it did seem to have a little steam coming from the exhaust but i dont know, cyliners have a little scratches nothing to big, but the head was wayyy corroded, im hoping that was the problem

Take NO more than the lip off of the head.

I have a 440 that hauls. I eat 550's for breakfast and then nibble on 650's for lunch. Sounds like there are issues with your ski. I have seen 300# guy's ride the S%$t out of my 440. Why on earth would you put all that work into a conversion? Just buy a 650 if you want a 650. You can do a lot of mods to the 440 and it will rip. Just fix it and ride. You don't have to have the fastest ski on the water to have a blast.
