One sheet is enough if you don't care about the length of the rail pieces.
Two to take your pick, or if you're a noob at Turfing.

i thought one would do for everything but no..
if you want some nice rails get two
i also had enough to turf a chinpad too
tho i just found a deal on rail turf from MIKE W

you will need THREE sheets. One sheet of underpadding, and two sheets of whatever turf you want. you'll come up short with one sheet of turf.

Be aware that Hydroturf no longer sells non-self-adhesive foam underpad. And last I checked, they will only sell whole sheets of it ($80). That was over a year ago, though.

Apparently, there are much cheaper closed cell foam alternatives to be had at the local hardware store for that.

I like at least 2 layers of the underpad.

Ive read about lots of folks using other materials ,and them holding up just fine.

the product called minicell I think also is the same padding, and often used in kayaking sports and stuff, ive seen it cheaper than HT for the same product, with MANY more size and thickness options.

EDIT

here is an old thread with some info

and some suppliers quickly found via google

I like that self adhesive stuff....works great, just use contact cement as normal on the hull...

You CAN do it with 1 sheet of turf .4' by 5'

You need a piece 1ft by 3 ft for each side of the tray

You need a piece 1'3" by 3 ft for the tray area.
that leaves 2'9" by 4 to do the front of the tray and rails .

You'll have a lot of seams on the rails like this and that's why I like to get 2 sheets and use one just for rails .

You can actually do the rails with no seams if you take a new sheet and cut a 4 inch wide piece all the way around it and use a heat gun to stretch/bend it around .It can be done but it's tricky .

SPEND THE MONEY AND GET THE 25MM UNDERPADDING OR A SIMILAR PRODUCT

Oh, it worked very well for me, too.
But it adds cost, and I will not be paying $80 for a sheet of that again. They used to sell tray-sized pieces, but don't anymore (not last year, anyways)
I am not advocating skipping the underpadding. And if you don't have the patience to look for a similar product, go with HT.

Yeah, we bought the sheet of 25mil and used it for 3 skis...might be able to do a 4th.
I ran just short with one sheet of turf. I didn't want a lot of seams in the rails. If you don't need to do your dash or your pole pad, one sheet should do it.
It's close. Measure twice, cut once.
