how do i install reeds on my 650sx

how hard, how nessesary, and where are they located on my 1989 kawi 650sx. i have oppertunity to by jetlyne high performance, fiberglass reed set for 30 dollars... good deal?

oh, btw the reeds in are prolly stock, and never have been looked at.

stock boat?
not really necessary but won't hurt.
remove intake manifold and you'll see the reed cages.pull them off,unscrew the old reeds and install new ones following directions provided.screws holding reeds are small so use a good screwdriver.
easy to do.

when you put on the new carb and manifold they will be right there. go ahead and pick up some new gaskets they are only a few $ at the stealership

1/4" drive socket extension is key to doing this, I forget what length but I know I needed at l standard depth 10mm socket and 1/4" drive extension to do this without removing the engine. It's like the ground down open ended wrench needed for installing a b pipe manifold.

do i really even need to get racing reed? or new reeds? would it really improve my power? or is it not even worth it?

Alot of people feel stock reeds are best and I agree. I've heard a good solutions is simply flipping the stock reeds over when they get worn. I think the Kawasaki manual recommends this and has clearance specs for when it should be done

just make sure they are not chipped

if stock reeds are stainless do NOT reverse them as they will break.
glass or carbon reeds can wear out faster than steel but won't destroy your engine when they go.

There is a small hole on my reed plate where the gasket goes does that whole face up or down
