Homebrew Pole limiter and hood straps.

I made some threaded inserts and drilled small holes into the tray for them to drop into. then used 5200 to glue them in place. when the cured added a little more to the edges of the large stainless fender washers that held the inserts to help reduce air pockets around the 3 layers of 6oz cloth I epoxied over them.

The rope itself is made from a 600lb tensile strength rope I got at the hardware store with Aluminum crimp on ferrules to make the loops and attach the bungy. the ones over the bungy I covered in heat shrink tubing... just cuz I felt like it.

the upper loop is attached to the steering stop via a 1/4-20 tapped hole and a Stainless loop.

The rope stops the pole about 4" from full extension.

and just for fun... here is one of my Homebrew tow strap/grab handle. I have one that is slightly shorter for the rear as well

and here is where it looks like my Straps will be going.

looks great!

I love the idea of the tow rope handle in the front eye.

Someone and Myself were discussing that last week!

Got any more pics/info on the ratchet straps?

I want to go that route!

the ratchet straps are just run under the pole bracket.

I measuered out the hole placement and cut holes acordingly in them for the mouning bolst to pass through. then I used a lighter to singe the edges of the holes to prevent fraying.
I still havent trimmed them th there final length yet.

the loops on the limit rope are going to pull straight. weld the loop closed or just get the closed kind.
thought of that... But I almost think that the inserts would get ripped out before the stainless fittings bent. I may be wrong though. any other ideas are welcome for consideration.

few thoughts

i run 2 large eyelets with washers. bent one and upgrader to larger ones. also to connect the rope i uses a U and a pin that holds about 600lbs. got it at ace.

also does anyone mount the ratchet strap ratchet dirctly to the boat. for hood straps.

I don't think that eyelet will stay in there too long. I opened a stainless eyelet (and broke a poll off) and then replaced it with a welded one then ripped the eyelet and the washer out through the fiberglass. Then replaced that one with a thick layer of glass and some huge washers, then sold the ski.

i dont see why running ratchets for hood safety straps is necessary they are there in case of latch failure ratcheting the hood down will pop the latch causing it to not work and causeing stress on the hood being overly compressd.

also it will such major a$$ when you stab you toes on the eyelet that is in the tray.
ive never seen anyone drill so much in the tray water or leakeage in that area isnt good..

all my .02 cents
no knocking on you at all just mo!!

Your set up looks fine, every body does it a little different-- but your going to break that POS kawi stock pole way before your hood ever comes off!

he might not run bungee all ropes or it can extend about 2-4 inches more cause thats how much slack is left and the pole looks all the way extended.
