FX-1 hood straps on FX1

On my FX1 build, I have a Blowsion pole bracket and was planning to run wetracer's billet front latch piece and waterdogs rear latch. I have some hood straps, but not sure if I really need them. I guess there isn't a downside.

I also have the stock front latch, which actually looks like it would hold the hood better than the billet front pieces during pancake practice :Banane13:

Would you recommend using stock latch, and/or hood straps?

Thanks...

Thanks for the feedback. The issue I have with the wetracer or WD type front latch is that there is no tension adjustment. It's snug when the hood is latched, but I can push the hood down (simulating landing upside down) and the hood gets a little loose. The stock seal compresses.

That type of front latch doesn't have much engagement.

I'll plan on running straps until I can figure out a better way.

Mike,
Your front billet piece is solid, and great quality. Lined up perfect. That's not my issue...

It's pancake or 90 degree landings (that i am fully capable of) and hood coming off that concerns me.

I am very pleased with my wet racer front hood latch. I should've bought one way before I did and saved a ton of headaches in the long run.. Thanks Mike!

Back in my 440 Superstock race days my girlfriend got T-Boned in a moto and the hood popped off and ski sunk. I found this really cool strap that went from one side over the hood to the other side. It hooked under the side lip and had a latch that you just flipped up and it was tight. Wish I could find some of those. Mike

I haven't installed mine yet. I have Blowsions bracket, so i will need to drill and tap for hood straps.

The other option, less preferred, is to mount through fiberglass.

I can't figure out where to mount the ratchet strap??

Any help or pics of how you did it would be great.

Thanks

I've seen those... and have read that many folks really liked them.

someone had OCD

no, i was just sick of the hood coming off when i was learning rolls... i went through two sets of stock hood latches... the fx-1 hood is super thin and flexible . needs to be held down way better than any of my rn hoods.

I have not had any problems with my hood hooks. They are rock solid!!! Mike

the wetracer fx-1 front hood hook is a nice piece.. i would recommend it. much stronger than oem.
