I cut a stocker first and likes the "feel" in the surf, however, In a straight line the ski was really loose, and had no straight line tracking above 1/2 throtle. The JD cut plate is the best of both world now. Ski tracks straight because the low spots (rear outter edges) act like fins when going faster, and in the surf, on a wave, the cut out takes away that water pressure on the back of the plate.
I dunno the beifits of the D cut on flat water. In the surf, on a wave face, it lets the back of the ski sit lower and helps prvent pearling.
