Daupjetskier and I just did this. He fabbed his from scratch and I just bought a hitch hauler and put carpetted bunks on it. Since my Jeep is a secondary car, I leave the ski on it all the time and just jack up the back of the carrier a bit to take some of the load off.

Sweet. You got my trailblazer on there i was just about to put that up myself. I was thinking about putting a hitch on it, but was thinking the tongue weight would have to stay around 100lbs....I know the 1/4" thick bar stock that was used would hold it...just a question of the receiver holding it.

Edit: Also dont forget to add taillights to it. When the ski sits on the carrier it does cover the lights on the vehicle up.

Here is another view of it. Doesnt really sag the suspension out either.

hey pro so u actually own the trailblazer with the hitch hauler on it? does it drive good with the ski on the back or does it get light and squirley? when i get my hauler finished iam going to hopefully haul it with a 550 stand up and also a light aluminum trailer with a 2 seater kawi on it do you think it wil affect the driving then?

Yeah that is my T-blaze in those pictures. You will notice the rear end sitting lower. But it wont get to squirelly or light unless you are loaded down with a lot of gear besides the skis. Mine actualy rides really nice with the ski hanging off the back. Have made 5 600 mile round trips with it and havent had a problem yet.

so i should in terms be fine with the 550 on the back and trailering the 2 seater behind that? i wil make the trailer as light as i can by moving the 2seater farther back on the trailer so maybe that will help thanks for the input

OMG, are you serious?!?!? Moving the couch BACK for low tongue weight will make the trailer sway. Look at it this way.. Hitch hauler 50-80Lbs + 550 300Lbs = nearly 400Lbs alone. Then add a trailer and you go over your 400Lbs max. Factor in some slop in the reciever + the swaying trailer and you have the potential for a major problem. You might get lucky OR you might die.

I put one on my Ramcharger and It looks like I will have to install airbags now it sunk the back end down a ridiculous amount.I can only imagine a trailer hooked behind that.

Here's my set-up. I have a picture somewhere of it all hooked up but couldn't find it. You can't really see it, but my hitch hauler can tow a trailer behind it. I went from central Minnesota all the way to the U.P. with my SJ and Ski Nautique. No problems at all. My truck is a F-350 though.

I would think it could handle a heavier duty receiver. It is on the mid-size truck frame. Not a unibody. Has a straight axle in the rear so you can mod the suspension and components to suit. Definately a very capable vehicle.

would it be easier try and convert that single trailer to a double or just get a diff trailer? maybe you could rig something up with the 550 sideways on the trailer...

ya i was thinkingabout converting both the trailers into one but i believe that i have found a trailer that might work but its a longer boat trailer so i wuld have to put them one after another and find away to keep them moving from front to back as to not hit each other. fyi i can get the boat trailer for 200bucks and sell both of mine so maybe that would work out better

Now you're talking! Your TB has a towing capacity of about 6000Lbs, so a class 4 or 5 hitch won't help( if they even make one for a TB?). That F-350 has a 10,000Lbs+ tow capacity.

A bigger trailer would probably be your best solution.

Don't worry about it. You can lighten that ski trailer so that the tongue weighs next to nothing and you shouldn't have a problem. I have never owned a trailer that I didn't lighten the tongue to 25 or 30 pounds. NEVER had a problem with anything from my ski boat to my 4 place ski trailer and my single standup trailers. And most of the things that I haul are behind my hitch hauler. Which I have posted quite a few pictures of.

Lets be logical they say you need 10% of trailer weight on the tongue. So your kawi SSXI is 401 dry and a light weight trailer is another 100 tops. If you make the trailer tongue weight what it is suppose to be that is only another 50 pounds at the most. That is under the 400 mark because the 550 is about 250 pounds. So you are safe with in what is recommended by the factory. And what recommended rating is ever near what the real thresh hold limit is.

If you are worried set it up and have a buddy follow you around the back roads for a test ride.
