Its just aluminum threads woven into fiberglass cloth for a nicer looking appearance.

It's not any stronger then regular cloth and it's hard to work with if the surface not completely flat.

Wow so it's triple the price and heavier than normal fiberglass... That doesn't sound like a very good product at all. Might as well spend a little more and get real carbon.

I've been wanting to lay up some of that stuff and spray it with that anodized look paint. I think it could look pretty cool.

But ya, nothing special as far as strength is concerned.

Carbon is stronger than 1708 biax?

Well it depends on both weave and weight of the carbon. Given the same structure and weight of both fiberglass and carbon, carbon will be stronger. Will 1708 biax be stronger than 4oz. unidirectional carbon? Absolutely. Will a tightly woven 17 oz. carbon fabric be stronger than 1708 biax...very much so but you'll pay for that strength as well. However, in order to get the same strength, you'll need less carbon so it's a balancing act really but fiberglass still usually comes out cheaper and heavier.

Maybe just buy this http://compositeenvisions.com/raw-fabric-cloth-2/holographic-carbon-fiber-127/ if you do buy any color other then silver its hard to git to laydown but can/sometimes be done with a heat gun... ive got blue, gold and black dont buy the black....ever

Ya, I've seen the colored stuff, but I'm a bit partial to orange. I have some orange carbon/kevlar, but wet out, it looks red.

By black, you mean the "graphite"? Have you tried both the 6oz and 8oz stuff?

If anything, I'd probably just buy US Composites' 8.5oz 2x2twill E Glass and add some pigment to my resin. It's less than $8yd.

not sure, what color do you recommend? Im going to be reinforcing the inside of my engine compartment on my sj soon, before it gets cold.

if your boat is going to see saltwater more then once a year dont use the silver or any thing that is coated with aluminum, you can clearcoat it to help cover the aluminum,we all know what aluminum does in saltwater..if it was me i would use this and lightly clear coat it... http://www.solarcomposites.com/composites/compositecarbon.html#12K
