if your boat is going to see saltwater more then once a year dont use the silver or any thing that is coated with aluminum, you can clearcoat it to help cover the aluminum,we all know what aluminum does in saltwater..if it was me i would use this and lightly clear coat it... http://www.solarcomposites.com/composites/compositecarbon.html#12K

how does that stuff lay down? is it as easy to work with as glass?

any pictures? now your making it hard to decide to either i use colored mat to reinforce or make it plain and prime/paint the inside of the engine compartment all together.
