yes, it is possible to go too slow............... I dont do subs much anymore, just dont like them I guess............. but here is a hint, Gas and hop at the same time, as you leave the water, let off the gas, lift your feet to the underside of your butt (Bending your knees like you are squatting), as you enter the water and go under, you can drag a leg to act as a rudder also (old 550 trick) If that does not work, try the same actions and check to see if you are lowering the pole to the hood, if not, focus on lower the pole, by doing this you are forcing the nose down, also, as you are bending your knees and pulling up with your feet, tuck your upper body over the bars

Don't forget to duck - you need to get yur head between your arms as you go in. Not only does that stop your head from getting ripped off, it also gets your body in the right position.

okay, been amonth and I finally got to ride! first couple of good attempts got the nose in just enough to send a massive slap of water into my face! oww! was seriously rethinking subs it hurt so bad. like a fall off a tube at top speed.

Been trying with more speed than before. still suck at timing my jumps on swells. But finally I bounced just right and got completely under, head and all. The huge gush of water was much easier to take than that earlier slap. was so astonished I did it I forgot to keep on the throttle and just popped up. Still was stoked I got it. so now I had to repeat to make sure it was me not just a fluke. did it again after a couple more uncoordinated hops and flops and this time I stayed on the gas a little longer. oh crap now I'm going down, down, down, let off and bobbed. so I have learned I do it better off one hop and in bouncing twice just gets me off timing. more speed than just on plane seemed to help too. I think it is the diff between going in and deflecting off the water, for me at least. easy with no foot holds, just need more practice at timing the chop. went back and read SJbrits advice about finishing the ride out and have some more info to get the job done. thanks for the advice everyone. Gonna do these for a while and then try Nosestabs.

I always thought this pic of me showed the form pretty good. I tuck my head the rest of the way right as I go in. You can see my toes tucked in the footholds just enough to grab hold, my arms are straight from pushing the nose down, and my knees are bent a lot from pulling the tray up to get the right angle.

Great pic.

On an all stock SJ, I've found it easier to sub in surf stance (left foot forward) with my left foot wedged beneath the extinguisher. Shoes help! Im still getting there.

absent x, welcome to the x. with the help of these guys I got subs pretty easy. I have ridden a sxr( nice ski). I have a 650sx and a 650SJ and I can do it on either ski now. for me, I was doing like you are describing, just getting the nose of the ski in and getting a slap of water in the face. what I did was speed up a little and just did a hop up and in. not a huge going for the sky hop but enough to have a little angle in. not even sure if the ski comes completely out of the water really. but I think going just on plane was slow enough that it stopped me from having momentum to go under enough. Please understand I am not saying go really fast, but you may try to go a little faster.
