Other help with stripped screw

i need some help with a stripped carburetor screw.i tried letting it sit in some oil and tapped the screw hoping it would penatrate didnt work.. tried one of those ez outs and i broke it off in side the screw so there's no way of drilling it now.. there's no corrosion or rust on it so i dont understand why i cant get it to turn :aargh4:.. if you have any tricks/tips or anything it would be great thanks. here's the picture. its the screw on the top.

ha, this is easy. go to sears and pick up a set of 4-5" channel locks. make sure you are turning to the left and it will come right out.

That's not stripped.

Use a large flathead screwdriver.
Before you attempt to turn the screwdriver, hit it with a hammer several times. That should break the threads loose.

just got it after 7hrs screwing with it seems like it was the only screw with locktite on it but thanks guys. now i just have to rejet it. my first time

Before you remove any other screw in those carbs, hit the screwdriver with a hammer a few times!
The internal screws are very soft and strip easily if you are not careful.

Some times I will clamp it in the vice hard, and then turn the carb!! It has worked for me in the past.

rejeted the first one got to do the other tomorrow wow that was easy. i thought all kinds of springs were going to pop out at me and take an eye out.

should i buy a new diaphragm if the old one is kinked up but it's not ripped?

If there is no hole, you don't need to replace it.

stop right there and purchase two mikuni re-build kits and re-build both carbs before putting them back in the ski...

impact screw driver should have one in toolbox they are cheap and work great

I was going to say the same, $20 Craftsman impact driver- great carb tool...

i was thinking a rebuild kit but everything was super clean when i rejeted it so im going to leave it. am going to just buy 2 diaphragm's because one of them was kinked and had a little melted spot on it and buy the gaskets.
yea i do need one of those impact screw drivers they seem pretty handy.

this is for a blaster b pipe ltd i hope all this work is worth it

a number 2 phillips, then a number 3 flathead, then visegrips next time you have this issue. And a new screw after that.

Use the hammer trick or an impact driver like was mentioned above.


On re-assembly, I use marine grease on every screw. But I am in a salt water environment and ride 2x a week from april-november.

maby iv seen you out there motoman25. i ride out of freeport.last seasion i rode just about every day- every other day till mid december.im going to get a late start this seasion because of a broken ankle im hopping around the end of may

i dont think i would use a impact screwdriver on a tinny carb screw. you do realize you have to hit a impact screwdriver with a hammer pretty hard...


like Matt siad, a little tap on the end on a screwdriver does wonders.

The impact works fine. Been doing it for years. Try to get an old salty carb apart. Sometimes thats the only way. You need heat before that too.

Just have to put some sort of protective padding in between the carb and the bench.
