Help with my 650 sx

Hey guys I need some help. I got a 650 sx for free from a friend, the thing is in good shape, it had been sitting awhile so I went through the carb flushed the tank. I couldn't get it started at first but the battery felt week, so I charged it.

Next day it fires up immediately, sounds great. Yesterday I decide to hook it up to the hose let it run a bit before I take for its maiden voyage. I remove the charger hook it to the hose fire it up, let it run for 3-4 min, reving it out a little to unload it. shut it off. Go to restart and it just turns over, wont start, prime it, nothing. battery starts sounding weak again. Jump it from my truck, starts right up, let it run again for a few min, kill it, try to restart, still hooked to my truck, nothing, just turns over. pull both plugs and I have spark.

wait 10 min it starts back up, sounds great, shut it off and the whole cycle starts over. I did notice that even when jumping it at times it sounded like it was slowing down, starter that is. Might be due to my crappy jumpers.

could the starter be drawing so many amps that its not providing enough power to the ignition? any help, guesses, ?????

Well after reading on here and other forums, I started to rethink my problem, I decided it wasnt an electrical issue. I started thinking valves.

I pulled my reeds out and found that they all had small gaps, I'm not sure how much is acceptable???? I also found that one of them had a small chip in it. The thicker piece of fiberglass that the reeds sit on also had a small gap between it and the cage, is any of this normal?? and my cages have no valve stops, every other set I have seen have valve stops.

any help would be appreciated guys, it any of this normal, am I barking up the wrong tree???valve.jpg

don't think that the reeds are your problem. check all connections and ohm out the ground and power leads with a multi-meter.

willing to bet it is electrical related.

and yes on the current draw, that is why it uses a solenoid to connect to the battery.
