HELP! Mystery problems. I'm lost.

rule out things like bad connectors, switches, wires, etc before buying the expensive CDI
I'll agree with that!

Maybe you can borrow a CDI
I've got one here, but to my suprise, the ski started with mine. (per first post)

check it out. If it reads open
I guess I check it with the ski running? (sorry, I'm ignorant to electronics). Define "reads open".

NO do not read anything with the ski running!!!! There is about 20,000 volts when firing the plugs. It will fry your meter. With the ski OFF measure between the spark plug wires with your ohm meter. See my earlier post for suggested values. If the meter reads the same as if if were not connected then you have an open circuit. You should get a reading. This will tell you if your wires have a bad spot or worse case, a coil with an open secondary. Find someone who knows how to use a meter and check it out. Call RD Young at the number in my sig line. He is a good guy and knows Kawis better than anything. He will help you out.

the day I finally figured it out and got it fixed..I wasnt expecting it to fire off with such authority...My GF had a FULL laundry basket sitting on the floor in the garage.....right behind the ski..

Same thing here - WU, kids clothes, my clothes...NOTHING gets that stain out..:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

you should read on a Kawi but the Yami reads about 4500 ohms with non resistor plug caps, about 14000 with resistor caps. Get a ohm meter and set it to the 20k range and check it out. If it reads open the you have either bad wires or a bad coil.

Done. Checked w/ an auto ranging meter it reads 15.05K ohms.

I'm going to freeze my nards of wed. and put it in the lake to see what it does....

Man, I hate bugging poeple w/ my problems, but since I run their pipe, I thought "why not" and sent Factory Pipe a link to this thread. They replied...
You could be getting salt on the heat sensor that was attached to
>the stock chamber and we have you disconnect. When the sensor
>thinks the pipe is overheating, it won't rev above an idle. The
>"spooge" is normal.
Sounds like it very well could be the case. That pretty much describes the way it was acting, as well as explains why it would start now.

Would that just be the open plug ending where the sensor was removed during pipe instalation?

Hi, have you checked out the water temp sensor, i asume you either cable tied it out of the way or disconnected it. On my friends sxr salt water got into the water temp sensor plug, shorted it out & sent the ski into limp mode

Maybe worth checking out?

I took it out and ran it hard in the lake yesterday for about 20 minutes. Everything was perfect. I'm assuming at this point that just has FFP guessed it is the heat sensor. I can't imagine a CDI or coil would kill off, then come back to life down the road.

How do I protect the plugs and connectors from salt? Pack everything full of dielectric grease?
