Guys I need your help desperately, Im at my wits end with my ski, :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: its a bog standard 701 blaster, and every weekend Ive been out its played up and Im at a loss as to what the hell it could be, basically its like this when we first go out it runs sweet, revs out and its fine , then after about 5 mins its starts playing up, basically it drops on to one cylinder and wont rev out, if you feather the throttle then it starts to cleear and its off again, then it starts to play up again, at first we thought it was the CDI so we changed it out, weve also changed the coils, the plugs, the caps and rebuilt the engine with new gaskets bearings and everything, put a new fuel filter in.

Im so puzzeled as to whats going on, I have noticed that its worse when it rough and I bury the nose or take a wave but I wouldnt of thought it would suck water through the system that fast if it was the fuel fliller leaking or something.

this is really getting me down as we dont get long over here were we get good weather to ride so kinda wana make the most of it, plus its so deppressing taking the ski all the way down the beach for it to not work, especally when theres a good swell..:frown: :frown:

Any ideas thoughts sugestions or anything else welcome..

if not its floating on its own across the big wide ocean

actually, you said beach so that means salt and everytime i goo in salt i have problems. im gunna start with the bassics....you have the plug wires seperate a few inchest the whole way right? they can never touch or be close..... and you NEED to put dialectrical greese on your plugs, only on the ceramic part though.

I'm guessing playing up means bogging  which is why I would guess carbs. maybe needle and seat need replacing, maybe fuel filter is dirty, line is clogged, heck maybe the jets are off. Has it ever run right or is this a new thing? Maybe even an adjustment screw vibrated?

cheers for the swift replys guys

Carb has been stripped and rebuilt 6 times now, checked and rechecked, it does bog down yes, but in doing so it runs on just one cylinder, the front one, the back one seems to run very rich and gets oily (based on the plug removal)

All the jets are set to factory specs, fuel filter is brand new, lines are clear...

Ive checked all the obvious things, now Im on a hope and a prayer..

I will say that when its rough it seems to get worse and more frequent to the point were it does it all the sodding time till I get so annoyed I head back to shore and go home. :banghead:

If it was the stator would it not just pack up and not run ??? or would it be intermitant still..

I would closely inspect that stator. It can be intermittent.

When it runs good is it spitting nicely? When it runs bad is it spitting nicely?

check the plug wires and see if the resistance is good onthe onthe high voltage side of things. and also do this wiggling them around a bit ifyou haven't already
in my experience with my kawi's it has been a stator with heat related problems when i get things like this that happen not so sure about yami's though
