help converting a single trailer into a standup double

Need some help here,Ive seen a few of you guys convert singles to doubles in varying ways,Im trying to convert a triton alum single into something that will carry the blaster and the sj. Cant decide to use alum and weld it or use wood and bolt it. I suppose the bunks fall right over the fenders? does the trailer still track and ride ok?Anyone have any ideas or pics of their own design.

I converted mine a couple of years ago, aluminum FeatherLite trailer.

used Wood and Ubolts to make it a dual standup trailer.

I DID weld a cross brace to the front for the bow stops ( but it could have been bolted as well)

I've been debating doing this also (for my SJ/B1) since I can't fit a standard double trailer in garage. However, a SJ + B1 = 63" wide and my single trailer is simply too narrow to make this work safely (maybe yours is same).

masterblaster - Since you have a sweet aluminum trailer, for what you can get for it you should be able to buy a used double trailer (metal galv).

one of my trailers is a single that i coverted to a double standup, but im not sure about getting a blaster and a standup on it. the blaster is a couch when it comes to trailer dimensions.

I carry a waveraider and a standup -- blaster should be easy.
The trailer is a real hack job -- meant to be temporary, but it fits in my garage and it tracks just fine. (She's seen a lot of miles at 75+..)
The main trouble I have is there is no reasonable way to put a winch for the raider.

Damn bro, you definitely called it right. That sure does look like a hack job:smile: Are you sure that thing is safe?

The bunk structure is better built than you might think, its not going anywhere.
As to towing safely I only have 50,000 miles or so to say its safe..
I did upgrade the springs to 1000lb (each) and I've gone to 12 inch wheels since the last pic -- primarily for wear, but it looks a little better too.

hmm, that looks similiar to one that was at the daytona meet. I already have a big galvonized double,it just wont fit in the garage, and its major heavy, good to travel long distance thats about it. I got this trailer to do just this. the blaster isnt that big,the distance between the outer fenders is larger than 65 inches. It has bigger 12 inch tires already and pretty heavy duty springs. Anyone else got some pics of their design they can post.

Here is mine. Converted a single Performance trailer to a double. Coust bout $200 in materials. But rides out. No problems whatsoever. I did have to upgrade the tires to a slightly higher load rating.

I had to do this as I only have a 6' access to the back yard.

Looks slick bro. Did you weld all that up yourself?

All the welding you can see is on the original Performance trailer frame. That is why I like Performance Trailers so much. Heavy gauge "c" channel construction + Strong welds + good thick galvanizing. That trailer has 8 years + salt water exposure and the zinc is only getting thin in a couple of areas.

Everything that I added was bolt on. To weld I would have to have ground through the Galvanising (not good for longevity).

ollie, nice idea and nice pics, thank you. very interesting front bump stop, where did you find those peices.

you can see by my bunks they adjust up pretty high,im thinking about reversing the inside bunks and using them as they are, then adding a bunk over the fenders on each side some how, this way i can still use it as a single with the b1 in the middle if i need to,just have to figure a way to make it sturdy. I need to figure a easyer front bump stop for the double setup,I want to balance the skis weight so there is little or no tounge weight,so i can easyly push them around with out breaking my back, any ideas

O RLY??? :cool2:

I'm with you there, I built my trailer to fit 2 standups, the only one that doesn't fit is an Fx because of how the chines are---they will fit, but kinda sit weird. There is no way I could get a Blaster on my trailer, I'd have to redo the entire thing, lift the bunks way up and out, etc.

Are those synthetic 2x4's or just painted?

Scott,I think the raider above is a little more of a couch, and he still got it to work, lol. I gotta have some sort of front bump stop though.

The bump stops are from Performance. they are the best setup I have found for standups. They still sell them but were thinking of discontinuing them the last time I was over there. If you would like me to score you a couple I can go over there and do that, I just need to check on pricing. They are about a 1/4 mile from my work.

The first question you need to answer is if you are gonna have any problems with the fenders. Work out the space you want between the two boats. Then work out the total width from outside chine of the sj to the outside chine of the blaster. This tells ya if you need to elevate the bunks.

You can probably get rid of all of that complecated bracketry that holds the bunks. Just drill a hole in the trailer and through bolt it.
