I have only seen external hard drives with Wifi built in to them for this exact purpose but I don't know if they go over 500gb

Can you just get him a dedicated refurb laptop with some real power and storage and load him up? They are cheap! Maybe show him how to use kickasstorrents (kickass.to currently) and Vuze (a torrent manager program)....then he can dload at will anything he wants.....music...software....movies.....I can teach you via a Skype session...this message will self destruct!

You have an overly optimistic expectation of bandwidth at overseas bases. Let alone accessibility of torrenting sites.

I'm sure you have already loaded the HDD with the movies, but watching movies on a phone sucks. The Kindle Fire HD dropped in price to $139 a few weeks ago.

I have been converting all my DVD backups to M4V for play on our ipad minis. I have a little over 200 done at this time. I did 20 or so for play back on my Galaxy S3 as well. You can fit an auxiliary card up to 64gb, which if you keep the file size under 1gb per movie, would be at least 64 movies.

I only have a 16gb card in my phone and have 19 movies loaded at any given time.
